Dhaka, May 23 (bdnews24.com) — Bangladesh has turned to the United States to buy cargo aircraft to modernise its aging fleet and improve the capability for movement of cargo and personnel on humanitarian missions.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency on Tuesday notified the Congress of a possible foreign military sale to Bangladesh, according to a media statement of DSCA.

The estimated cost of buying four Lockheed Martin C-130Es, associated parts and equipment, and training is $180 million.

"The Government of Bangladesh has requested a possible sale to provide regeneration, overhaul, modifications and logistics support of four Lockheed Martin C-130E United States Air Force (USAF) baseline aircraft and 20 T56AA Rolls Royce engines being provided as grant Excess Defence Articles," the statement said.

The US agency is of the view that the proposed sale would contribute to the US foreign policy as it would increase the capacity of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) cargo fleet to respond to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

"The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region," it added.

Dhaka is also engaged in negotiation to hammer out an almost a billion-dollar arms deal with Moscow.

A parliamentary standing committee report stated that Bangladesh plans to purchase a squadron (16) of advanced training aircraft that would facilitate flying jet fighters, and a high-powered radar system under a long-term loan protocol from Russia.

Good move, Just as I thought that BAF should go for US Cargo Planes C-130E and modernize them to C-130H Standards.

RSAF C-130B/E had a lot of life left in them Yet they have been sold to TUAF for $26M-$80M conflicting reports on price-cost though.

Anyways very good deal along with these C-130Es upgraded to H Standards BAF is also receiving 20 Rolls-Royce T56 engines to be provided as excess defence articles, plus training and other equipment and services associated with the upgrades.

Part of upgrades as well as it could be that BAF could procure even more C-130E next 2-5 budgetary Years.

The proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by enabling the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) to use its C-130 fleet to respond more capably to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief needs in the region and support Bangladesh’s significant contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, and support operations to counter violent extremist organizations. It will also improve the commonality and interoperability of the BAF and the U.S. Air Force. The proposed sale of support will help to modernize the BAF’s aging cargo aircraft fleet. The C-130E will provide Bangladesh with an improved capability for the movement of cargo and personnel in humanitarian missions.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be determined via competitive bid. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Bangladesh.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

Once these C-130E/H are received completely modernized, BAF should send the ones currently in inventory for refurbishment-upgrades, the cost would much much lesser.

yes you are right all C130 should have the same config so it is easier to maintain
