২০১৩ সালে চীন থেকে দুটি সাবমেরিন ক্রয় করে বাংলাদেশে। সাবমেরিন রাখার জন্য ইতিমধ্যে ঘাঁটি নির্মাণের কাজ ৪৩ শতাংশ সমাপ্ত হয়েছে।
বৃহস্পতিবার (৯ জুন) প্রকাশিত ২০২২-২৩ বাজেট কাঠামো অনুযায়ী কক্সবাজার পেকুয়াতে সাবমেরিন ঘাঁটি বানৌজা শেখ হাসিনার নির্মাণ ৪৩ শতাংশ শেষ হয়েছে।

বিগত তিন বছরে নৌবাহিনী দুটি মেরিটাইম পেট্রোল বোট, দুটি করভেট, একটি টর্পেডো বেস ফ্যাসিলিটি, একটি সাবমেরিন বার্থিং পন্টুন, দুটি ফ্রিগেট, দুটি সার্ভে জাহাজ, পাঁচটি পেট্রোল ক্র্যাফট সংযোজন করেছে।

এছাড়া জাতিসংঘ শান্তিরক্ষী বাহিনীতে নৌবাহিনীর ৩৪৭ লোকবল, একটি জাহাজ এবং ১৪টি গানবোট নিয়োজিত আছে।
উল্লেখ্য অর্থমন্ত্রী আ হ ম মুস্তফা কামাল ২০২২-২৩ অর্থ বছরের জন্য জাতীয় সংসদে ছয় লাখ ৭৮ হাজার কোটি টাকার বাজেট পেশ করেছেন। ওই বাজেটের পাঁচ শতাংশ প্রতিরক্ষা খাতের জন্য বরাদ্দ রাখা হয়েছে।

Construction of the submarine base is 43 percent complete
Bangladesh bought two submarines from China in 2013. Construction of the base for the submarine is already 43 percent complete.

According to the 2022-23 budget structure released on Thursday (June 9), the construction of submarine base Banauja Sheikh Hasina at Pekua in Cox's Bazar is 43 percent complete.

In the last three years, the Navy has added two maritime patrol boats, two corvettes, a torpedo base facility, a submarine berthing pontoon, two frigates, two survey ships and five patrol craft.

In addition, the UN peacekeeping force has 346 naval personnel, a ship and 14 gunboats.

Note that Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has presented a budget of Tk. Five percent of that budget has been allocated for the defense sector.

That is not surprising for country that focuses on economy like BD. Even Indonesia with 1.2 trillion USD nominal GDP only order 6 Rafale planes for MRCA in which the contract is not yet effective until Today.

I found this location map of Pekua Upazila. The submarine base is probably in the channel just above Magnama. Considering BD is not protected by high mountains, this place seems to be in a good location.

The west is protected by an island Kutubdia but is without hills. I wonder, how far from the sea the base will be built in the channel. The farther and deeper the better.

BD is now busy with building new airforce bases. One is at the very north near the Siliguri corridor in Rangpur. Another in Sylhet. India has objected to these two bases.

Yet, another site is in Patuakhali in the southwest near Payra Port.
The country cannot buy any planes until their home bases have been built.

I hope it is built somewhere in the nearby Sangu river a few km east of the BoB. But, the hills are on the east side. Good against Burma, though!!

I was fond of watching 2nd WW Hollywood movies where German/ allied submarines would enter their home base undected because the sea is deep. A sumarine enters tha base and rises above the water.

Oh!!! what an excitement to watch these scenes.

However, BD seas have no such depth. But, digging the sea north and east of Kutubdia may help. Even the channel can be digged deeper upto Sangu.

We have to be magnanimous about the sub base location near Magnama.

Ultimately, we would need land, sea and air launched cruise and balistic missiles to deter enemy attacks on this base and other KPI's.
