What's new

Bangladesh Coast Guard to get five ships.

You don't need an aircraft carrier to ensure oil imports by escorting tankers.

Aircraft carriers are for invading other countries using coastal operations.

Please study this subject prior to discussing it further.
Then why is China trying to reach the Indian Ocean with a carrier fleet? The answer is to protect its maritime trade routes in the Indian Ocean. Bangladesh should do the same to protect its maritime trade and energy interests in the Indian Ocean.

Besides, if IN creates a naval blockade with an a/c carrier just they did in 1971, how would BN break that naval blockade? BN needs an aircraft carrier to break any naval blockade created with an a/c carrier by IN. Aircraft carrier is needed for defensive operation too.

Let's leave this discussion for some other time. We need to establish why a carrier fleet is built.

Bangladesh simply does not have the money or expertise to maintain large fleets of a/c carriers (like @bluesky bhai mentioned already).

Even a country like India with far larger naval budget only has two or three.

Let's just agree to disagree, OK?

bluesky can let BD to learn from Japan. Lay a deck on some merchant ships. Then call it ~ aircraft carrier.

No we don't need aircraft carrier. Since this is off topic, I will keep the response short. One we can't afford to buy or build one, two we can't afford to maintain a carrier fleet, and three, most important - we can't protect a carrier fleet without a potent air force, which again goes back to point one. We don't have the money.

Bangladesh should be focusing on indigenously built Fast Attack Crafts/Missile boats in large numbers with armed with Chinese/Turkish Anti Ship missiles to keep our naval territory free from blockade. Iran is effectively using this very technique.
Happy to discuss more on this in another relevant thread.

we need bigger stronger coast guard vessels and well armed which can go long range

Coast guard has enough ships

Not really. They have plan for more.

Bhai, four OPV is not enough for patrolling the EEZ of Bangladesh. We simply need more OPVs.

Two more all weather, deep-ocean going 3500 tons OPVs within 2026-2030.

we need to buy them from China. I prefer Type 039C. They are pretty good technology-wise.

Not all subs will come from China. Type 039 might not come if BN doesn't want Chinese engine and Germany refuse to provide it's own. Better go for more advanced Korean-Turkish options.

Because defence is the lowest priority for Bangladesh govt. Every year defence budget as a percentage of total budget and gdp is decreasing steadily.

Perhaps it looks like that cause the size of total budget is increasing every year. Defense budget is not decreasing here but increasing. Like you said this budget is just for salary and maintainance. Money for procurement is different.

I mean adding an aircraft carrier to the fleet within 2041.

Depends on which type you're talking about. There is plan for a medium size LPD in future. BN didn't provide any further details but the way we're SLOWLY progressing it could change in future and BN might go for something like LHD. IMO we can afford something like Dokdo class easily once things get normal.

A ski-jump light aircraft carrier within 30000 tons displacement is not that impossible and we can use UCAV on it like Turkey. If Turkey really uses naval Hurjet on it's carrier then it'll be more useful idea for future. Here's a post from 2020 on why we need something like LHD. Probably needs some change but still ok.

But if the Germany does not provide engines to Turkey - South Korea. Does BN accept more advanced Turkish - Korean engines?

Let me tell a joke ~ Turkey - Korean submarines are more advanced than Chinese submarines.

Defence budget increased by 4.3% in nominal Taka while inflation is over 9%. Even overall budget increase of 12.4% barely keeping above the inflation. Last year's defence budget was initially 403.6 billion Taka, later revised down at 366.5 Billion Taka. With this trend, it seems that, current year's real defence spending would be around 380-390 Billion Taka or $3.5 billion. $3.5 billion dollar is just 0.75% of GDP.

As long as Hasina remain in power, you can rest assure that Bangladesh will never ever do anything that is remotely discomfortable to India no matter what India do. We are progressively deceasing our defence budget from already a very low base. Bangladesh armed forces have no job other than to go to UN missions and giving guard of honor to foreign head of the states.

So, these missiles would not be required against Bangladesh.

You can't really blame the govt for this one. Current economic crisis hurt us all. Point is the way you tried to portray that defence is the lowest priority for Bangladesh govt is not true. And there's more sectors which need more attention. If economy is unstable don't expect any progress in defense but if things still don't when economy back in normal then you can complain.

Since the thread has gone off topic, the moderators should lock the thread.

The mods usually delete off topic posts - which they have in this case, as requested. My hats off to @waz, @WebMaster bhais and other mods.

Per forum rules, I believe locking threads only happens when mudslinging or a chance of the same occurs. But the mods and @WebMaster bhai always have the last word.

The whole off topic comment exchange started when we brought up the Aircraft carrier and blue-water Navy discussion, which itself is off-topic for a Coast Guard discussion. :-)

Coast Guard has no role in defending our sovereignty or territorial waters. It chases/apprehends smugglers, pirates and fish thieves or alerts the Navy when it sees foreign Navies escort foreign oil exploration vessels in our waters, which happened with the Burmese Navy a few years ago. Needless to say - the Burmese turned tail and ran back to their port.

If the mods have no qualms - we can keep discussing Coast Guard related topics in this thread, e.g. what we have and what we need. Such as the recent post about new Turkish OPVs to be made in Bangladesh locally,

You can keep dreaming with this Godi media propaganda. Hypersonic Glide Vehicle is only how bhakt mouths are equipped. It is a tech so far implemented only by the US and Chinese, and you ain't getting it from the US. By the way this is super off topic and you have been reported. I have never advocated A/C carrier plans.
But R&D has phul saaappporttt saaaar:
