Bangladesh building monument for Indian martyrs of Liberation War

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said Bangladesh is constructing monuments in memory of the martyrs of Indian allied forces in the 1971 Liberation War on the occasion of the 50 years of independence.

He said this when outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das paid her farewell call on him at his ministry office here. Liberation War Affairs Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh was present on the occasion.

They discussed Bangladesh India relations, Bangladesh Liberation War and bilateral issues.

They hoped that relations between the two neighboring countries would be stronger further in the days to come.

The minister recalled with gratitude the cooperation of Indian government and its people extended to Bangladesh during the Liberation War.

The Indian high commissioner said Bangladesh and India are tested friends. Some people are out to spread misleading information purposely to worsen the relations between the two next-door neighbours but the Bangladesh-India ties are not so fragile, she said.

Riva said the two countries have done many bilateral works in the last several years as Bangladesh and India are working as development partners while enclaves, maritime boundary and other issues have also been resolved during that period.

The Indian envoy lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership in the country’s unprecedented development and women empowerment.

She requested the minister for taking up initiatives for translating the books on the Liberation War in Hindi.

Riva expressed her country’s willingness to become a part of golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh’s independence in 2021 with its people.

Mozammel Haque congratulated Riva on her next posting as the secretary of Indian External Affairs Ministry and extended best wishes to her, saying the relations between the two nations will reach a different dimension during her tenure as the external affairs secretary.

So after 45+ years they remember to make a clay dick...

.
Let me guess, we should bulldoze the war monuments too because they hurt your feelings and remind you of something you don't want to recall ?

Erase the war from our history books ?

Call it 'Fall of so and so' in an attempt to save face ?

Shall we demolish the graves while we're at it ?

Slap those who lost loved ones ? Brand them delusional ? Tell them that their loved ones never existed ?

We have gotten over the war, it's Pakistanis who can't get over the bitter memory of defeat.

Why else would you cry foul everytime a Jamati is sent to meet his maker ?

Hell, Islamabad cries when normal jamatis who have nothing to do with the war are hanged.

Get your priorities straight.

We can have whatever ministry we want, we can hang whoever we want; they're our citizens not yours.

We DON'T comment about Pakistan's internal affairs and conflicts, perhaps you can meet us half way for once ?

We DON'T teach our kids to hate Pakistanis.

We DON'T hate the Pakistanis of today's generation.

We DON'T hate the Pakistan of today.

We DON'T always agree with Hasina.

We can have better relations, only WHEN Pakistanis cease to mock our Sovereignty and hard earned freedom by calling us "puppets" of a third country.

Better relations with Pakistan isn't some gold mine for us. We are not desperate.

We will not forget, but we will forgive.

We are all for better relations because the Pakistan of today is just another country for us.

Do you want better relations with us ?

You do but why ?

If it is to stick it to India, then bye bye, we don't want to be a pawn in this vile India Vs Pakistan game.

However, If you want better relations with us for any reason other than the one above, then we will welcome you with open arms.

Bangalis are a pragmatic people, never forget this.

Relations will improve, Imran Khan seems to be a level headed pragmatist, Dhaka will appreciate this.

People to People contact is built on mutual respect and understanding, so maybe let's respect each other ?

We are ready, question is are you ?

Thinking you're ready is the same thing, If the posts on PDF are anything to go by, Pakistani Populace needs to be a little more considerate and respectful.

Here's to hoping relations improve, on the foundation of mutual respect and understanding.

Good day to you and No, I do not despise Pakistan, If you look closely the anger of Bangladeshis is directed elsewhere and has been for centuries.

Why havent you resolved the "liberation war affairs" within a decade or two of independence? Bangladesh isnt the only country in the world that fought a civil war, but is probably the only country who still pretends to be in a post-war phase half a century later.

Thats what I mean by they arent over it, compare with other countries who fought longer and bloodier independence wars if you dont believe me.

What is wrong in having a ministry of liberation war affairs ? It is an administrative branch to take care of the freedom fighters and war heros and administer benefits. Functionally similar to the US department of Veterans Affairs. I do not understand your logic of this being an issue.

Hasina, no. She worships 1971 as God.
Why does she and her BAL worship 1971? It is because she or her BAL have been unable to create any other assets for the country. Obviously, they want people not to forget 1971 and India. In reality, non-BAL people from the Bhashani NAP fought in the field, but BAL hijacked the credit from them with the Indian help.

I didnt say it was an issue, I said that they (Bangladesh) are still not over the war because they still have a "liberation war affairs" ministry. Other countries who fought bloodier and longer civil wars amalgamate those sort of issues you mentioned under a Ministry of Defense, or an Interior Ministry. To have an entire an entire ministry and cabinet position devoted to veterans of a single conflict is administratively redundant.

It would be like if Vietnam had a "Vietnam War affairs" ministry in the present day for example.

so bangladesh happy being a slave of the ultimate slaves in the history of the world!

NOT Bangladesh, most Bangladeshis detest india. Awami League regime and its cheerleaders may showing resentment towards Modi and shanghi setup but they sure signed up to be congress led indian slave will be so in future.

. . .
I reckon most people here are missing the point. Given the recent fluttering in India due to the BD-Pak diplomatic talk, this is just a mere 'chill buddy' gesture towards them, just to show that our govt is still aligned with the 'Supapawa'. Nothing more.

If this was a genuine gesture in any sense, why wasn't it done earlier when relations were at peak? Or at a particular occasion? Why only when Riva Ganguly is leaving? It is simple. To ensure Ganguly doesn't cry back and complain in Delhi. I doubt this will even materialize.

.
Lol @ indians here claiming that the creation of bangladesh could have been avoided...........

The creation of bangladesh was as natural and inevitable as was the creation of Pakistan.

Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen said, our victory means victory of India, our development means development of India. Because since the time of liberation war, sweet relationship with India, pulse relationship.

He said the relationship with India was not to be severed. Various agreements have already been concluded with India, including water agreements. There are some minor issues. Trust the Awami League government, there has been a lot of development. You will see many more developments.

My thoughts exactly. This is just a soothing balm (political consolation prize if you will) for Riva Ganguly's rather ineffective tenure, limited to simple transit progress and keeping things on an even keel until recently.

Next time she may get posted to Papua New Guinea (or some desk job), and will take the fall as scapegoat for the current turnaround in India-Bangladesh relations, though not her fault at all. Her bosses will blame her as is usual in such cases.

pak Bangladesh love resulted in two separate countries . bangalis will never forget what was done to them .
It was inevitable. A country can't remain united only with religion. The mentality of Pakistani and Bangladeshis are different. Specially geography was not realistic to create single country.

I wish in 1947 two Separate Muslim majority countries should have been created .

But for hindutva propaganda Muslims remained deprived from land and that's the reason such odd formed a single country .

Only if the separation wouldn't be so bloody ,no controversy existed nowadays.

.
bangalis will never forget what was done to them .
Actually no Bengali remember the old stuffs other than some political criminals who get benefit politically for this issue .Soon they will be obsolete too. Just wait few more years .
