What's new

Bangladesh 2nd largest economy in South Asia

All thx to Hasina and her strong leadership. Without her guidance it wouldn't be possible.

@bluesky
See? This is what AL and hasina brings to the table ie... Prosperity and development.

Is it possible for Bangladesh to become the top 20 economy by 2050 considering this trend?

Sometime I feel really confused when people start boasting on the basis of FORECAST AND ASSUMPTIONS... There were articles about India in 2020 based on the economic growth under Atal Ji... but then came corrupt to core UPA government and they did not left a single stone un-turned to destabilize the Indian economy... believe me if NDA has not came into power in 2014... India would be in a mess by now... same as Pakistan is...

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We should rise step by step. Get into top 40 first. Then top 30. We will see what happens afterwards.

We need to understand the trade potential between India, BD, Nepal and Bhutan... Just imagine Nepal and Bhutan fulfilling the electricity demand by using the untapped hydro resources in these nations... transit routes and other business activities... POTENTIAL :yes4:

Pakistanis' keep singing about their geo-strategic location... but what is the use of it... CPEC is a great opportunity for them...

Mujib and hasina r undoubtedly two of the greatest Bangladeshis. We will forever be grateful to these two people.

One has helped us by getting rid of the baggage called West Pakistan while the other is still helping us with her strong leadership.

BBIN corridor is slowly materialising. BD made a deal with Bhutan to import electricity through India. Nepal, Bhutan and India's NE have good hydropower potential. BD doesn't. I don't want BD to construct any more dam to produce electricity. We love our fishes and ecology too much. Importing hydropower from neighbour would help.

My bad... I forgot to quote aforementioned post by TopCat... about 2050... while talking about trend in first para... required amendment is done :)

Bro, police have already assured them of their safety. It's a country of 160 million ppl.
There will always be some losers who will use their power for their personal gain.
Hasina is fine but what some thugs do using her and her party's name is despicable. And Govt's stance is not hard enough regarding this. How could some BAL member even do this? It's not feudal era.

.
Can't belive how far we have advanced in last 10 years. In 2006 the country was on the verge of becoming the second Afghanistan and now just after 10 years we r the second largest economy in South Asia.

I agree that GDP in terms of PPP is more accurate when comparing two economies.
PPP is relevant if you are looking for the living standard of the common people. But country's aggregate GDP is more relevant in nominal terms. A country's position in the world is most commonly measured by nominal GDP. That's why US is still the largest economy in the world. Although China surpassed US in PPP GDP back in 2014. For similar reason, India is considered 6th largest economy in the world, although it's PPP GDP is 3rd largest. So, internationally nominal GDP is more important.

Not disputing that nominal GDP is more relevant when assessing global influence. My comment was regarding comparing living standards of two given economies.

India with GDP of $2946 Billion is now 5th largest economy .

Yeah, Bangladesh has duty free access to the Indian market for garments in return of our duty free access to Bangladesh for RAW...it's a mutually beneficial deal!! :D
60 million illegal Bangladeshi also has duty free access of whole India. They are giving you duty free access of demographic change nightmare when you sleep at night.
