The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has described Iran as a key regional player upon his arrival in Tehran to attend the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

“Iran has a very important role, crucially important role to play in the region, particularly when it comes to the Syrian situation, and I am going to discuss this matter with Supreme Leader [of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] and President [Mahmoud Ahmadinejad]…,” he added.

Ban was received by Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazaei on Wednesday.

“I am very pleased to visit Iran on the occasion of 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit meeting and I should thank government of Iran for inviting me and for the warm hospitality. I am already overwhelmed by such a warm hospitality by the people and government of Iran,” he said adding, he was “looking forward to having very constructive and useful discussions and meetings with senior leadership of Iran….”

Ban had left New York for the Islamic Republic on Tuesday.

Khazaei said, “The presence of the United Nations secretary general in the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement indicates the great importance of this summit and its key role in the international relations.”

He added that the visit “will last at least for two days….”

The summit is currently in its third day and will last for two more days. Iran's Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is slated to address the heads of state meeting on Thursday.

NAM, an international organization with 120 member states and 21 observer countries, is considered to be not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. Its purpose, as stated in the Havana Declaration of 1979, is to ensure “the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of non-aligned countries.”

Last Wednesday, The New York Times wrote that the decision by Ban to attend the summit was proof that the US and Israel’s anti-Iran policy had failed to find followers on much of the global scene.

“The American-Israeli campaign” against Iran “is not resonating in much of the world.” It noted that Ban’s decision “reinforced Iran’s contention that a reordering of powers is underway in the Middle East where Western influence is waning.”

The US State Department has said the visit “sends a very strange signal…” and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the UN chief that he would be making “a big mistake” if he joined the summit.

Strange, because if Moon was a puppet he probably would have listen to Netanyahu when he called Moon to not attend this NAM summit.

.
Ban Ki Moon or any UN secretary general is appointed by the West. They must (it is a requirement) have had extremely close relationships with USA, having been educated there, worked there, acquainted itself with the evil ways of Western lifestyles in order to be appointed to that post by the West.

@Surenas: It is a distraction tactic used by the Jews. So next time if Ban Ki Moon or UN or any Western agency would work for Western interests, they could point to this incident as 'proof' of Ban Ki Moon's neutrality. United Nations itself is a big joke. Where is its headquarters? that fact alone is bad enough to disqualify it as a neutral organization, and there are thousands of other factors one can count.

He didn't mean his travel to Iran.Indeed he did the good thing for travelling to Iran.
Let me bring an example of meaning of puppet:Almost everyday,Israel threatens to attack Iran, but not for a once Moon has condemned Israel, but when Iran threatens Israel back,he is the quickest to condemn Iran talking about war provocations and blah blah.Tell me,if that doesn't mean being a puppet, then what is it?

. . .
After returning from the summit Its not impossible for Moon to say ' Gosh, i saw the bomb there. lets bring a resolution now':cheesy:
Indeed he is western puppet and he must be having some ulterior motives.

Which country has killed the most number of innocent people in the world in the last decade? Where was the UN condemnations, threats, security council resolutions, embargo, blockades, no fly zones against those criminal countries? That's just for starters.

Make that the last 50 years. US is by far the most brutal and aggressive country Worldwide post-Hitler/Stalin. No one else is even close.

. .
UN is a joke of an organisation. If any type of movement comes out of this NAM meeting which can counter USA/UN influence in the world, then it will be a positive step.

.
I mean, Bangladesh could claim to be a global player based on UN peacekeepers contribution statistics. As of now, Bangladesh is the largest contributor to so called "UN Peacekeeping" forces.

Of course, this is a nonsensical idea because UN itself is a Western tool. They never asked for Western countries to be sanctioned, bombed, invaded, embargoed and blockaded.

Where is the headquarters of this so called "UN"? Is it even a credible organization?

UN headquarters is in New York. In reality the sole purpose of UN is to represent interests of a few powerful nations (5+1, with US having the strongest influence), the rest is smoke screen. There is zero credibility in UN.

this could be a double game playin by US..thats why they sent Moon or to find a solution other than sanctions, war

I hope your answer has cleared the smokescreen in front of many ignorant people's eyes.

By the way, it's only Western countries that use the UN. I don't recall the Chinese or Russians (they are members of the P5) ever using the UN to 'punish' a single Western country or even so called "Israel" successfully.
