“Baluchistan International Conference” in USA on Nov. 21:

By Ahmar Mustikhan

Washington, DC: November 6, 2009. (PCP) A number of international activists, scholars and human rights practitioners will be participating in the first-ever Baluchistan International Conference in Washington DC on Nov. 21-22.

The American Friends of Baluchistan, an organization that supports the independence movement, has organized the conference. The AFB considers Mir Hyrbyair Marri, Sardar Brahumdagh Bugti and Dr. Allah Nazar national heroes of Baluchistan.

The conference has been organized to highlight Baluch issues in Eastern and Western Baluchistan -- now under Pakistani and Iranian occupation -- and to pay tributes to slain Baluch freedom fighter Nawabzada Balaach Marri, 41, an elected member of the Baluchistan state assembly and son of legendary Baluch leader Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri.

Marri was killed extrajudicially by the Pakistan military on Nov. 20, 2007.

Baluch international activist Mehran Baluch, a brother of the slain leader, will preside over the two-day conference that is aimed to find ways and means to end the plight of the Baluch natives in Western and Eastern Baluchistan.

Some of the panelists at the conference are:

Saghir A. Shaikh is the former chairman of the World Sindhi Congress and is one of the founding members of Sindhi Baloch Forum.

Munir Mengal is the managing director of Baloch Voice based in Paris, France.

Dr. Gul Agha is an outstanding speaker whose expertise and personal experience enables him to speak extensively on human rights and international and domestic politics pertaining to Sindh and Baluchistan.

Wendy Johnson is a co-producer of the seminal documentary The Baluch. She and her husband Albert Larew manage thebaluch.com website.

Asad Rahman is program director at the Sungi Development Foundation. He had taken part in the Baluch resistance against the Pakistan military occupation of Baluchistan along with the Marri guerillas in 1973-77.

Ismail Ameeri joined the Western Balochistan-based Balochistan National Movement and is presently a member of the central and executive committees of the pro-independence party.

Ali Arjemandi is a brother of Ehsan Arjemandi, who was kidnapped by the Pakistani Military Intelligence on August and is still missing.

M. Mumtaz Khan is vice chairman of the International Kashmir Alliance. He advocates a free, secular and democratic Kashmir.

Aziz Baloch now lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he represents the Baloch Human Rights Council.

M. Hosseinbor ( Dr. Bor ) has written extensively on various issues relating to the Middle East, including the critically acclaimed treatise Iran and Its Nationalities, 2000.

Humaira Rahman is general secretary of the World Sindhi Institute.

Dr. Nazir S. Bhatti has been campaigning for equal rights for Christian people in Pakistan since 1985. He is president of Pakistan Christian Congress [PCC].

American Friends of Baluchistan condemned Islamabad for putting one of the invitees to the conference, Prof. Naela Quadri of the Baloch Republican Party on the infamous exit control list.

I thought US was Pakistan's friend, why is it supporting separatist groups of Pakistan.

Does US want Pakistan to be split and be in chaos?

No need to be sarcastic friend! This is how Closet White Supremacists treat all of their "friends"....

They are termed "Closet" because they dare not publicly express their views, but do it in a round-a-bout way.

This conference is not something sponsored by the US government. I posted it because I thought it was interesting for Pakistanis to know about. I agree that it is not something that the US should do, it undermines Pakistan. But it is another example of how the freedoms in the USA allow such groups to organize, raise funds and hold conferences to present their agenda. The US government does not have the power to stop such conferences.

They are not advocating any of the separatist movement. this is called democracy. If people want to discuss something peacefully let them discuss.

SIF,
Most of the panel participants of this conference are not "Whites". Why do you have to interject your racism? Essentially the Americans involved are far left "Amnesty International" types. They do not represent the American mainstream.

I would hereby like to peacefully discuss the Independence of occupied territories in the NE region of India, famously named the "7 Sisters". It is my democratic right to oppose ILLEGAL hedgemonic occupation of MY PEOPLE. :) :china::usflag::pakistan:

Most of the "panel participants" of course are not white, they are PAKISTANIS. However, most of the supporters and audience ARE white..... And to say the US has no "control" or "ability" to restrict terrorist SEPARATIST ACTIVITIES in a sovereign foreign nation is utter bullcrap! Why do they persecute the Black Panthers then? :sniper:

The first point is whether they want independence.

And yes you were discussing that since long within China.....

The obvious answer is the hundreds of UNIQUE armed separatist movements should answer your query. :china::partay:

I hope USA declare them as terrorist as they did with LTTE or Kashmir Freedom fighters etc

If Kashmir Freedom fighters have Conference in Pakistan will that be show of freedoms in the Pakistan??????allow such groups to organize, raise funds and hold conferences to present their agenda ? and Pakistan says The Pakistan government does not have the power to stop such conferences.

should Pakistan copy USA in such Freedom acts ?

India has largest number of domestic terror groups
Kartikeya, TNN 24 June 2009, 03:03am IST

MUMBAI: The CPI (Maoist) swells the list of indigenous terror groups operating on our soil to 27, making India home to the largest number of domestic terrorist organisations in the world. On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) named the CPI (Maoist) as 34th terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act; seven of these are transnational terror groups.

CPI (Maoist) joined ranks with Ulfa and SIMI and lesser known entities such as Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council of Meghalaya, Kanglei Yaol Kanba Lup of Manipur and Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj, which though virtually unheard of are considered deadly enough by the government to be designated as terrorist organisations.

Of the seven transnational terror groups, only two —al-Qaida and LTTE — are truly global names. The other five are Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Harkatul Mujahideen, Al Badr, Jamat-ul-Mujahid and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) which are all Pakistan based terror outfits fighting Indian security forces in Kashmir.

"I am not surprised that we have so many local terror groups," said Prakash Singh, former director-general of Border Security Force (BSF). "Since Independence we have seen the rise of a new terrorist movement in every decade, whether it be the Naxals, militants in Punjab, terrorists in the North East or in J&K. It is failure of governance that has led to this situation," Singh said.

Going by number of organisations that other countries currently designate as terrorist, they too feel threatened by a number of groups. But none of them have as many home grown extremist groups as India does. The list runs into more than 40 in both US and Canada but includes only international names such as Hezbollah, Hamas, FARC, Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional, Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) etc — none of which operate directly on their soil.

Amongst developed countries, only UK has a significant number of terror groups breeding close to home in form of nine Irish militias such as the Ulster Freedom Fighters and the Irish Republican Army.

"India is a large country with such great diversity and so many grievances. This complexity leads to growth of radicals who survive on extremist ideology and terror. Developed countries have not had to deal with problems like ours that breed extremism," said intelligence affairs expert B Raman.

I am sure you will support a peaceful conference of the Taliban and AQ around the world. I am sure they will come up with political wings to discuss matters peacefully.
