Bajaj Auto May Sell RE60 Vehicle In Sri Lanka Before India Launch

Bajaj Auto Ltd. may export its first four wheeled vehicle the RE60 to Sri Lanka before introducing it in India, Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj said Tuesday.

Sri Lanka is "a large market, and we already have a good distribution setup there. It gives us confidence by launching it in Sri Lanka," he said.

Rajiv Bajaj said at the Jan. 3 unveiling of the RE60 that the company India's second-largest two wheeler maker by sales expects the model to create a new public passenger vehicle or "city taxi" segment.

He had also expressed the hope that the 200-cubic centimeter gasoline engine vehicle will eventually replace the about five million Bajaj Auto three-wheeled vehicles currently plying the roads across India.

The RE60 will be made at Bajaj's three-wheeler plant at the western Indian city of Aurangabad.

Bajaj said the company sells about 10,000 three wheeled vehicles each month in Sri Lanka.

They should replace autos with nano or re60. Autos are dangerous.

Its not easy considering the fact that Nano or RE 60 is costly than an autorickshaw...until Govt is ready to give some subsidy.

i think bajaj has lost this taxy contest to NANO cause its more or less same price& carries same amount of pessengers + almost identical feul avrage but nano looks like a gracefull buisness women whereas this RE60 looks like an ugly kam walee bai with big torso, small legs & a very big tummy????????

to aad more Value to the pakage NANO has almost thrice the cubic cpacity & double the power & is very much at home even on lng haighways but you cant say the same about RE60.....can you????????

.
thats expensive mate. even if you consider that its about 25 rupees in India . i have yet to see the nano in India as a taxi cab . would love to see them .:)

May be their economy is adjusted to that fare.

I think Sri Lankan prefers Chinese to Indian products.

which chinese cars? seems like geely, cherry etc are available in srilanka, pakistan.
thinks JDM(japan domestic market) 2nds are more popular there, it seems.
from a auto website, "made in india swift and japan domestic market swift(2nd hand imports) have big difference especially in build quality" - would like to hear from srilankan members, if it is true? since, both the cars are made by japanese know how and standards.
