Bahrain said on Wednesday that an Iranian pilotless plane was spotted in its air space recently near Saudi Arabia.
While revealing this, Interior Minister Lt-Gen Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa praised Saudi efforts in discovering a spy ring working for the Iranian intelligence on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia announced the arrest of another 10 suspects that brings the total number of arrest to 27, of which 24 are Saudis.
The interior minister condemned Irans alleged interference in the internal affairs of regional countries. He said the members of the terrorist cell discovered by Bahrain were linked to Iran and had been trained in the use of weapons and explosives to attack vital installations and public figures. The minister said Irans alleged espionage activities, including recruitment of supporters, constituted a blatant interference in the internal affairs of the countries in the region.
Therefore, he said, greater vigilance was needed to maintain the security and stability of the GCC nations.
Iran has recently claimed advances in its technology in unmanned aircraft, including possibly re-engineering technology from a CIA spy drone captured in eastern Iran in late 2011.
