Following international condolences, aids and sympathies offered to the victims of the Badakhshan tragedy, the Afghan people, of all walks of life, contributed greatly in the disaster relief not only nourishing the survivors, but exemplifying national unity.

"Without considering ethnic backgrounds—Pashtoon, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, etc—I believe each Afghan family has been shocked by the tragedy, feeling obligated to do whatever they can to support the Badakhshan people," Kabul resident Mansour said.

A Helmand resident named Attaullah said that they will stand alongside their countrymen and sacrifice their lives for the sake of their country.

The 201 Sailab Afghan Army Corp in eastern Nangarhar province donated one day's worth salary to the victims in Barik Ab village of northern Badakhshan province.

"Our team decided to donate one day's salary, which makes up 8,158,200 AFG for the landslide victims," commander of the 201 Sailab Army Corps Zaman Waziri said.

People in various regions of the country have launched charity campaigns to collect aid for the victims. In some areas women have even sold their jewels to help the sufferers.

"So far we've collected $100,000 for the people of Badakhshan," Herat Governor Fazulullah Wahidi said. "The money has been donated by military personnel, government servants and businessmen."

Khost resident, Obaid said a "girl in Khost sold her three golden bracelets to support the victims."

In Kandahar, resident Abdul Wase said they have raised 1.6 million AFG in one day.

The landslide in Badakhshan province happened on May 2 killing hundreds of people; more than 300 hundred homes were buried under debris and mud.
