Azerbaijan's JF-17 Thunder Acquisition: Updates & Discussions

. .
Isn't this strange that 16 JF-17 were sold to Myanmar worth $560 Million

While Azerbaijan is buying 24 JF-17 worth $500 Million

The price figures is wrong. Block 2 starts from $25 million a piece. It could the stock price without RADAR because Azerbaijan is still negotiating for RADAR so that price might be added later. Plus targeting pod price will also be added later cause Azerbaijan and Turkey will negotiate among them selves.

It was Pakistan choice not to develop weapons for itself which are available

Pakistan develops many weapons for JF-17 all the guided bombs and many missile are developed in Pakistan.

That good maybe the final amount is gonna be close to $800-900 Million

As ASELSAN 16 PODs costs $25 Million when Pakistan bought it from Turkey

Don't know what will be the final price bro but what Azerbaijan is going after it is definitely expensive than the stock. JF-17 with so much tech is a killer and better fighter. You can say it will be 4++ gen fighter and integrated data link environment throws jf-17 some where near 5th gen because then the jet can execute an aerial penetration strategy effectively. Thanks to Azerbaijan we really came to know about the true potential of JF-17. Now I can understand why Pakistan ditch the F-16 for it because modular design give is unlimited room for upgrade.

No air to air weapons or exportable stealth cruise missles, no antiship or any anto radiation or cluster missiles
Some are built under licence which are not for export

Air to air weapons with IR are made in Pakistan. Anti radiation weapons were previously Pakistan Brazil joint venture and now we have a Pakistan China jointly developed cm-102 missile with 100 km range. Our stealth cruise missile exceeds max range for export so yes for export jf-17 will give som. The som version for jf-17 is Azerbaijan Turkey and Pakistan's joint development. Pakistan develops cluster bombs for jf-17. Pakistan and Azerbaijan jointly develop anti runway missile for jf-17.

Currently jf-17 export weapons package has more variety of ammunition than any available jet from west or Russia for export.

Consider f-16 or migs or su and compare what sell along their jets is very little ammunition. For example Saudis use tornado for bombing but jf-17 can do the precision bombing it self.

In anti-terrorism missions ever since jf-17 got those targeting pod the jet became a real deal for air to ground role.

Here is pic of Jf-17 air to ground mission with targeting pod and guided munition. Plus air to air defence. This is why jf-17 is cheap because it can bomb and defend its self multi role jet.

4 important strategic gains can arise here.

1. Azerbaijan wants to build a new air force independent of the Russian infrastructure "as far as possible". In this direction, the JF-17 platform is a good opportunity for directly Pakistan and indirectly Chinese companies.

2. The expansion of JF-17s in terms of avionics and weapon loads can make its modular feature prominent and can have a positive effect on western markets.

3. Azerbaijan's JF-17s can be test bed for possible future cooperations and sharing capacity between Pakistan and Turkey.

4. Azerbaijan may be a small but first realistic approach as to whether joint training and combat infrastructure can be established.

Just a query …
Simplistically, if a depreciating PKR results in imported products becoming costlier, then wouldn't the cost of Pakistani products also go down during export? So wouldn't the cost of the Pakistani contribution in the making of a JF-17 also go down? Wouldn't that impact on the whole cost?

We
@salman-1 Jf-17 has 2 options for anti-radiation role. Late Pakistan China jointly developed CM-102 is also available along MAR-1
We also have Ld 10. But both are rated for same range 100km. So what's the difference and which ones better.
The Google search shows Ld 10 has more integration on Chinese aircraft's then Cm 102

In 2019, Azerbaijan and Pakistan may sign an agreement on the purchase of JF-17 fighter-bombers, the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) representative said. He said this to AzeriDefence military news website.

'The configuration of JF-17 Block 3, which is of interest to Azerbaijan, is ready. For the fighters, the radar of the AESA system is selected and in the near future it will be tested. The contract for their purchase can be signed in 2019,' said PAC representative.

He noted that the mass production of JF-17 Block 3 will begin in late 2019 - early 2020.

According to the representative of PAC, all technical issues that could affect the sale of fighters to Azerbaijan have been resolved.

'By the end of this year, JF-17 Block 3 will be presented to Azerbaijan and clients from several other countries. The Azerbaijani side, in its turn, solves the issues of financing the deal,' the source said.

According to him, until the end of this year, Pakistan will supply Azerbaijan with all 10 training planes Super Mushshak ordered by official Baku.

'The planes are ready. They are being tested,' he said.

Because block 2 did not had aesa earlier. Plus block 2 got bvr recently which was also one of their requirements and few more things which Cannot be shared.

JF-17 Blocks-1 and 2 will be upgraded with AESA. There is already a Chinese solution for it which is smaller in size and hence able to fit in without any modifications to cone on the existing JF-17. This was widely discussed in another sister forum. Hence Block-2 can be offered with AESA - there is nothing stopping it.
