Azam alleges Asfandyar made deal with US for $ 35mn
PESHAWAR: Senator Azam Khan Hoti alleged on Monday that Awami National Party (ANP) President Senator Asfandyar Wali Khan had made a secret deal with the United States for 35 million dollars.
Azam, who himself is a former ANP leader, claimed that party leader Senator Afrasiab Khattak played the major role to strike the deal which pertained to the Taliban.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the deal was struck during a visit of Asfandyar along with party members to the US in 2009, which was arranged by former MNA Naseem-ur-Rehman through a US national. As a result of deal, Asfandyar received a payment of dollar 35 million, Azam alleged.
He said it was a white collar crime having no evidence, but its veracity could be checked from Naseem-ur-Rehman and the US citizen, whose identity he did not disclose.
He said an investigation should be held to evaluate the assets of Asfandyar, which had increased significantly during the last five years. He had constructed a palace in Dubai and a shopping mall in Malaysia, Azam alleged.
He said the lifestyle of Afrasiab Khattak had also changed, who was now using a bullet proof car. His assets should also be probed, he added.
