The ban was imposed after flies and bugs were found in Pakistani mangoes consignment sent to Australia last year.

ISLAMABAD: Australian government lifted the ban placed on the import of Pakistani mangoes and the traders will now be able to export fresh mangoes to Australia.

The ban was imposed after flies and bugs were found in Pakistani mangoes consignment sent to Australia last year.

The mangoes will now be exported after treating them with irradiation or hot water dip.

"Australia has amended its import conditions to enable the export of fresh Pakistani mangoes to Australia after they have been irradiated for fruit flies and mealy bugs," Faizan Haq a spokesman for Australian High commission in Islamabad told Dawn.com.

The spokesman said the amended import conditions mean that mangoes for Australia from Pakistan are now able to be treated with either irradiation or the current hot water dip treatment.

Importers in Australia may now apply for an import permit for irradiated mangoes from Pakistan, he added.

The new measure will see Pakistan mangoes more widely available in the Australian marketplace for Australians to enjoy.

Amended import conditions will apply to all potential Pakistani exporters of irradiated fresh mangoes.

If your goods are shoddy, don't expect people to buy them. Health regulations are taken very seriously in developed countries.
As for the rest, it's good news for Pakistani exporters.

This could be there ploy too to favor some one else from other part apart from south asia last year EU too banned indian mangoes for many months

It will likely be good for next season because this year's crop has been damaged by thunderstorms and local consumption would be met with difficulty.

USA supplied the equipment and even allowed import for Pakistani mangoes, but guess what? We couldn't even dunk the mangoes properly. The ban was reimposed. :(

:o:, I can get mine at the local walmart, publix and some others... all within 15 miles, walmart is walking distance. :victory::yahoo::bounce::smitten:

In USA? Where?

Not sure if they're Pakistani mangoes, in Florida.

But isnt the best part of mango season is already over?
Whats the benefit of lifting ban now, when the best quality is no more available for exports.

USDA banned imports of Pakistani mangoes due to lack of standards. But they were available back in 2004-06? I believe they were expensive at almost $70 a box for 6.

No US visa for Pakistani mangoes - The Express Tribune

As of now, no radiation plant has been set up, and the incompetence of the Pakistani Economic attache in Washington DC to find a USDA inspector to send to Pakistan is noticeable through the public who visit the Pakistani Embassy in DC.
