I never found the day anything special since age of 5 once I figured all fireworks look same and there is just smoke afterwords and lot of walking and cold outside

No difference between December 31st and January 1st , nothing mythical happens at midnight which requires me wasting my time instead of enjoying comforts of my home

My father makes a big deal about it mostly he is 70 and when he first came to the States in the late 1970s it instantly became his favorite holiday I never really liked it growing up as I said big deal year changes as I got older more nuanced view of it as I started going in groups of friends to hang in around the city once a couple years back we tried doing the ball drop near Times Square it was a diaster sardine cans of people with NYPD counter terror officers pushing you into barricades and checking your bags every few minutes never again but we stay away and just see what folks do

Firecrackers are banned where I live thanks to Giulliani tenure as Mayor of NYC in the 1990s

Not even in early childhood?

Till 15, I would be very fascinated with the arrival of New Year. A number of ingredients created this aura. Christmas and New Year's Eve almost coincided. A week-long vacation covered the entire duration from Christmas to New Year. Television shows and media would hype the event. I would be very enthusiastic making New Year resolutions.
