The army on Friday paid floral tributes to three of its personnel, including an officer, who laid down their lives while repulsing a militant attack on their camp in Kupwara district of Kashmir. Wreaths were laid on the coffins of the three soldiers — Captain Ayush Yadav, Subedar B S Gujjar and Naik B V Ramana — at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the 15 Corps here, a defence spokesman said.
He said Corps Commander Lt Gen J S Sandhu led the officers and other ranks of the army in paying floral tributes to the three soldiers before their mortal remains were flown to their native places.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Khan, Inspector General of Police S J M Gillani and senior paramilitary officers were also present at the wreath-laying ceremony, he added.

Captain Yadav, who hailed from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, had joined the service some three years ago.

Two unidentified militants were killed in the retaliatory action by the army while one militant managed to escape from the scene in an injured condition.

IAS officers to adopt families of security personnel martyred in action

NEW DELHI: The country's elite administrative service is doing more than just mourn the brave who lost their lives in anti-Naxal and anti-terror operations.
Taking a voluntary initiative, IAS officers will adopt families of these martyrs to ensure that their children get a good education and other family members get timely financial assistance that is due to them under the government's compensatory policy.
An association of IAS officers from across the country decided that each of them will adopt one family of the security personnel (defence, central armed police forces and state police) who died in such action and support them for 5-10 years. The adopted family would preferably be from the state (cadre) to which the officer belongs. The officer will not be required to provide any direct financial assistance to the adopted family, but support and handhold its members on a sustained basis so that they live with a sense of security and assurance that the country is taking care of them in their hour of crisis and tragedy," said Sanjay Bhoosreddy, honorary secretary of the Indian Civil and Administrative Service (Central) Association.
Initially, about 600 to 700 young officers of the past four batches (2012 to 2015) will be asked to adopt at least one family in the area of their posting. The officers (mostly SDM, additional DM or district magistrate level) will approach such families within their area of posting and offer themselves as facilitators to help them (families) get their dues, like pension, gratuity, or allotment of services like petrol pump, jobs or assist their children in getting school admission or getting them trained in specific skills under the government's Skill India or Digital India programmes. If the dependent family members are interested in starting a business or a start-up, the IAS officers will also help them out through financial institutions.
"Senior officers, or those from state civil services, can also adopt such families voluntarily," said Bhoosreddy, a joint secretary-level IAS officer who is currently posted as chief vigilance officer of MMTC, a central PSU. "We are requesting state governments and the central government to issue the necessary instructions in this regard to all concerned so that this arrangement gets institutionalised at the earliest. State governments have already been asked to share with the association the details of such families," he said, adding that similar details will also be sought from the defence ministry or the central armed police forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP or others.
He noted that the influence of IAS officers on the local administrative machinery can be "positively channelised to support and help the families of martyred soldiers in an effective and sustained manner".

As the army jawans carried the body of Captain Ayush in a coffin, people chanted slogans: "Jab tak suraj, chaand rahega, Ayush tera naam rahega (Ayush your name will remain as long as the sun and moon will shine)'; Ayush tera yeh balidan, nahin bhoolega Hindustan (Ayush, India will never forget your sacrifice); Bharat Mata Ki Jai (Long live Mother India).
Not only were Captain Ayush’s parents inconsolable, but many others had tearful eyes. Thousands of people continued to raise slogans in memory of the hero, till the fire turned his body into ashes.
Twenty-four-year-old Captain Yadav was unmarried and was the only son of his parents.
The body was taken to Yadav's house in Jajmau Defence Colony in Kanpur from the mortuary of the 7 Air Force Hospital around 7.30 AM, ADM K P Singh said.
People paid their tributes to the martyr at his house.

Arun Kant Yadav, the emotionally broken father of Ayush, could not muster courage to perform ‘mukhagni’ (consigning the body to flames) after which Ayush’s cousins Abhishek, Major Yuvraj, Piyush, Manish and Mayank performed the last rites amidst the chants of holy mantras at around 11.30 am.
Uttar Pradesh minister for industry Satish Mahana, BJP MP Devendra Singh Bhole, Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki, Congress MLA from Cantonment Suhel Ansari , Manindra Singh Bitta, district president of BJP Surendra Maithani, district president of Congress HP Agnihotri and the district president of SP Fazal Mehmood were present during the cremation.
Later, union minister Anupriya Patel met the bereaved family. Besides the officials of the district administration, army officers including Brig Vinay Mohan Sharma, Col. Pulkit Khera and Col Kaushal were also present.

An army JCO and a BSF head constable were killed on Monday and another soldier was injured as Pakistan fired rockets at a forward defence location (FDL) post of the paramilitary force along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceasefire violation took place around 8:30 AM.
Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh and Head Constable Prem Sagar of the BSF's 200 Battalion were killed in the attack, a senior officer of the paramilitary force said.
"At about 0830 hours, there was heavy firing from Pakistani (army) posts at BSF posts along the LoC in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district with rockets and automatic weapons," the officer said.
Another BSF jawan, Rajendra Singh, was injured in the firing.
Troops guarding the border line retaliated effectively, the officer said.

Under the cover of heavy mortar fire, a Pakistani special forces team sneaked 250 metres across the Line of Control (LoC) into the Poonch sector and beheaded two Indian security personnel today.
The attack was carried out by the Border Action Team (BAT), which comprises the special forces, under the cover of shelling by Pakistani troops in Krishna Ghati Sector in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Army issued a statement saying that the bodies of an army soldier and a BSF head constable were mutilated but a senior army officer told PTI that they were beheaded.
The BAT team had set up an ambush to target the patrol party of the Indian soldiers while the Pakistan Army engaged two Indian forward defence locations (FDL) with rockets and mortar bombs, the officials said.
"It was a pre-planned operation of the Pakistan Army. They had pushed in BAT teams over 250 meters deep inside Indian territory and set up ambushes for a long period to carry out the attack," a senior army official said.
"The Pakistani army posts attacked two FDL posts with rockets and mortar bombs at 0830 hours and engaged them," the official said.
"Their target was a 7 to 8-member patrol party, which had come out of the post," the official said.

The soldiers killed were Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh of 22 Sikh Infantry and Head Constable Prem Sagar of 200th Battalion of BSF.
A BSF constable Rajinder Singh was injured but is out of danger.
As per reports, at 0825 hours, Pakistani army's 647 Mujahid Battalion targeted India's forward post 'Kirpan' from its post 'Pimple' in Krishna Ghati sector.

Other acts of mutilation
On October 28, 2016, militants attacked a post and killed an Indian army soldier and mutilated his body close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector.
In January 2013, Lance Naik Hemraj was killed and his body mutilated by BAT. It also beheaded Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh. Constable Rajinder Singh of the BSF suffered injuries in the attack.
In June 2008, a soldier of the 2/8 Gorkha Rifles lost his way and was captured by BAT in Kel sector. His body was found beheaded after a few days.
During the 1999 Kargil conflict, Captain Saurabh Kalia was tortured by his Pakistani captors who later handed over his mutilated body to India.
In February, 2000, terrorist Ilyas Kashmiri had led a raid on the Indian army’s ‘Ashok Listening Post’ in the Nowshera sector and killed seven Indian soldiers.
Even then, Kashmiri had taken back to Pakistan the head of a 24-year-old Indian jawan Bhausaheb Maruti Talekar of the 17 Maratha Light Infantry.

Financial assistance will be provided to the families of the Army Battle Casualties out of this fund. The amount was contributed by the employees of the Madhya Bihar Gramin Bank, which is sponsored by the Punjab National Bank.
While accepting the cheque, Shri Jaitley appreciated the concern shown by the employees of the Bank towards the families of the defence personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the country and expressed his confidence that such efforts will be continued by them towards this noble cause.

SHIMLA: A Himachal-based couple has decided to 'adopt' the 12-year-old daughter of an Army jawan, who was beheaded by Pakistan in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on May 1. They have offered to bear the child's expenses from school till marriage, to ensure a good future for her.
As a tribute to Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh's sacrifice, Kullu deputy commissioner Yunus Khan and his wife Anjum Ara, an IPS officer, have decided to take care of his daughter, Khushdeep Kaur. "Khushdeep will continue to stay with her family. We will be paying for all her expenses and meeting her from time to time to know about her problems and solve them. If she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer or choose some other career, we are there to help," said Ara, SP of Solan district.
Yunus said it is difficult to assuage the pain of the martyr's family, but they are trying to share their grief. "By ensuring good education to his daughter, we are doing our duty as responsible citizens," he said. Yunus said that it is up to Khushdeep whether she wants to continue studying at her village school or join some other school. "We would be there for her throughout her life to help her in making decisions," he added.

"Khushdeep will continue to stay with her family. We will be paying for all her expenses and meeting her from time to time to know about her problems and solve them. If she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer or choose some other career, we are there to help," said Ara, SP of Solan district.
Yunus said it is difficult to assuage the pain of the martyr's family, but they are trying to share their grief. "By ensuring good education to his daughter, we are doing our duty as responsible citizens," he said. Yunus said that it is up to Khushdeep whether she wants to continue studying at her village school or join some other school. "We would be there for her throughout her life to help her in making decisions," he added.
