Assam, Meghalaya aim to boost trade with Bangladesh

These two and other Indian NE states should actively demand autonomy from that Satan country called India and seek a better relationship with BD to form a common market for the betterment of their respective peoples.

The Indian NE states have no economic future unless their economy merges that with BD's.

abe jamati , india liberated bangladesh .

Internet lungis are busy peddling nonsense on PDF. IMF April weo database will burst their bubble real hard about per capita. Indians don't miss the chance to mock the lungis at that time.
I think it is the question of mutual respect. Many of us Indians have been guilty of name calling Bangladeshis (as you are unfortunately doing as well). When that happens, it leaves a bad taste in their mouths and they would want to exact revenge for that with such statements.
Bangladesh can be a very good friend for India and frankly its leadership is supportive of India. Lets not make things difficult for them.

First of all, I only call out lungis of PDF. I am okay with Bangladeshis otherwise.

There are non-Muslims living in Bangladesh and they are a significant portion of our citizenry.

However we are all Bangladeshis at the end of the day.

Bangladesh govt. encourages and preserves cultural heritages/languages of the non-Muslims such as Chakma, Garo, Mro, Khasi and Tenchangya peoples. These populations are taught using their own languages and alphabets. There also job and educational quotas for non-Muslims and non-Bengali speaking folks.

But the overwhelming trends are clear. Folks sitting in Delhi some thousand miles away cannot decide what is better for those in Seven sisters region. No one is suggesting the breakup of the Indian union at this time, but being part of the Union must be moderated by economic uplift. It cannot be simply one way.

Pumping oil in Assam and lifting of 'faida' by the Indian central administration has to BENEFIT Assam in real tangible ways and not just the center only. There is a reason why groups like ULFA. KLNLF and NDFB got popular support. The root reason was perceived uprooting of indigenous populations by economic means by Hindi speakers. See it for what it is and move on to benefit your indigenous peoples.

Stop listening to dhokeybaaji propaganda by Central Govt. Sanghis - Bangladeshis or Muslims are not your problems or enemies, they are not in your region to uproot your tribal and indigenous populations. It is the Hindi speaker Sanghi @$$holes who are trying to populate your region with Hindi speakers.

The GDP per capita for Bangladesh is now double or more that of WB and Assam, probably more than that of Nagaland and Manipur as well.

Are the people and their leaders in Dispur, Shillong, Imphal and Kohima happy with this economic state of affairs? Are they happy with their land being simple backward picturesque touristy backwaters and live off the measly few tourist Dollars/Rupees dispersed by kanjoos cow belt tourists every year? So be it.

It'd seem however that the people of the seven sisters would like to improve their economic lot by trade with Bangladesh and have their eyes on a better future. Forestry. agricultural and mining raw materials and products are just the tip of the iceberg. The train is leaving at the station, get on board now.
Climb down from your high horse. GDP per capita in Assam is $1700 and Bangladesh is $1855 in 2020. If all the Bangladeshi are removed we will be twice as rich as you guys..

You guys are still in Bangladesh not in Belgium..
Even If North East India has to ever decide on political autonomy or independence ever, Bangladesh does not count in any circumstances..you guys are not relevant for our future aspiration

My dear @Saudang, note that this thread is all about your NE seeking larger trade with BD. However, you are claiming that no need to pursue this. Are you sure you are telling the truth?

Assamese Muslims have been domiciling there since the failed invasion of Ikhtiar Uddin Muhammed Bakhtiar Khilji in around 1205 AD. It is a continuous process and moreover, the rate of increase of the Muslim population is due to polygamy and then producing many more children that your women are not willing to do.

So, please start a movement to force your women to give birth to many children. Assam is a sparsely populated big land. Also, another movement should ban alcoholism for both men and women. They drink and then sleep until daybreak without lovemaking. So, how can the women conceive?

The issue is the veto power of Delhi. Delhi people are whimsical. They want to participate in every BD-NE meeting to slow the flow of negotiations.

So, autonomy would be good. Let Delhi tackle the foreign and financial policies and let NE states take their individual trade decision without Delhi interfering in between.

We will make NE fill up with our high-quality goods and in exchange, we will purchase many raw materials from those states. Win-win.
Hi Bluesky,

On the Delhi veto, there may be valid reasons for center to participate in the negotiations. I am not aware but let me think.
1. If individual states negotiate, then bargaining power is weak. If center negotiates pooling all states together, we get better terms.
2. Trade policies of individual states may not align 100% with center's plan.
3. You mentioned buying raw materials from NE and selling finished goods. If a region has raw materials, it is most beneficial to make finished goods out of them and then sell out to get better margins.

Again, I would let my fellow countrymen from NE opine if center has been a hurdle in their trade relationship with BD.

You are living in the fantasy. Take a referendum and you will see the majority in Tripura wants to be with Bangladesh. Tripura people are basically from our land and its Maharani wanted it to be a part of east Pakistan in 1947. Only our Chief Minister Khwaja Nazimuddin did not want that way. He did not give her an audition and she left Dhaka after about one week. Tripura people still want it that way.

So, please be practical!!
Mr Bluesky,

First of all, I highly doubt that people of Tripura want to merge with BD and as I personally know some and they are patriotic Indians.
Secondly, Indian borders are set in stone and will not change now. They are not open to any referendum in any part of the country.
Third, I am hope you are not representative of most BD ppl. India and BD can be genuine friends, but if you are eyeing our territory, then it cannot happen. You have achieved rapid growth because you have little security concerns since India is a friend. Why do you want to change that?
Fourth, you got your area based on your own Muslim majority area logic (even though we Indians were mighty peeved at this religious based partition). Now, you are breaking your own logic by looking at areas with non-Muslim majority. If you have so much love with our lands, you can think of joining us.

We can make our statements without taking resort to name calling. You justify your speech to the few you talk to internet. In the same fashion, some rabid Indian leaders talk shit on air. All these makes it difficult for our diplomats to maintain BD on our side. I am not asking you to change your stand, but we can do so without speaking in derogatory words.

I am not trying to be diplomatic. You are bigger person than me. I don't need your preaching.

Do these people look Assamese to you??
Lungi infestation making Assam poorer..
Also these people talk about per capita GDP...look at the below video and check the difference in infra and people on the Bangladeshi side and Indian side...
No wonder all these lungis cannot wait to get out of their shithole to our NE states

Please don't be delusional, we want better trade and friendly relations with Bangladesh but no one wants a merger, majority are very patriotic about India, many people actually think about the times when noakhali and comilla used to be part of greater Tripura kingdom not the other way around.

Stop living on your own lala land. Assam’s per capita gdp is 1359 USD which is likely going to decline more this year.

Plus Bangladesh’s per capita gdp is 2064 usd.

The fantasy that Assam will be twice rich of illegal Bangladeshi are removed is a pipe dream of yours. No Bangladeshis lives in a piss poor state like Assam.

You lot are always culturally and economically inferior to us.

Believe as you wish but migrants from BD is not some cooked up story that is being peddled just like that. People in the Northeastern regions are actually having problems which are completely valid. I gave an example when you yourselves actually had a conflict with West Pakistan where you got insecure about your people. It's the same thing
I think BD on their part should try to keep their people within their borders, those who enter with proper visas are free to enter, shop, take treatment, buy sarees, enjoy whatever. It also increases people to people contact as well.
But I don't know why you guys are so resentful on an article which symbolizes an increase in trade though.

Well, he mentioned that Bangladeshis have zero interest in India and I pointed out that some of the Bangladeshi citizens come to India for medical treatment and even for shopping.
This is what he said::-)

Anyway, regardless of what you guys believe in, the issue of migrants is a real problem for us. But the article is not about that so let's not go further on this.

I told you before use this propaganda illegal migration myth for your domestic consumption only not here. This are not going to be entertained.

You lot and your politicians seems doesn’t know math and how many zeros are there in the propaganda 20 million figure. When only 12-13 million Bangladeshis altogether lives outside throughout the world. There 20 million Bangladeshi living in India is a monstrous myth.

There were some Hindu migration in between 1970s to 1990s but your politicians actively promoted it but not the Muslim. But in recent time reverse migration started.

There are no proof or stat that justifies the illegal migration myth. NRC already busted it in India.
