As long as a normal human being, it is known that the slaughter of civilians is a crime, is not allowed by international law, and is a war crime.
The Australian government recognizes the criminal behavior of Australian soldiers, and the Australian media also criticizes these soldiers.
But after China criticized Australia, the situation changed completely.
All western governments support Australia, and all western media also support Australia.
I think this is too strange. The Australian government was still apologizing the day before, but the attitude was completely reversed the next day.
What is the psychological state of this transition? How to explain this shift?

My focus is how to explain this shift.
The popular opinion on the Chinese Internet is that white arrogance, white supremacy, double standards.
I want to know what people in other countries think? Do you agree with this explanation
In non-linear warfare, particularly counter insurgency it’s hard to keep troops from acting out when they are frustrated. It’s a sign of a breakdown in discipline. Many armies look the other way if they think it won’t undermine the overall mission.
while not an issue during the immediate war, stories of atrocities can undermine future cooperation by local populations or governments with that country.
It’s not always racism primarily, but it’s always some form of dehumanization of the enemy.
Watch the movie “Saving Private Ryan”. When the US troops take the machine gun nests and the Germans are surrendering, some of the US troops still kill them.
Watch from 3:03-3:30
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
I’ll let an Indian politician put it most clearly
Its about how soldiers are taught to wage war. There is a famous massacre of Italians and Germans during the invasion of Sicily. You can see how easily it can happen, depending on the orders from the top. Sun Tzu says when the orders are not clear it is the fault of the commander. In the case of Sicily it was Patton’s fault.
