What's new

As a non-white, can anyone tell me why Europe and the United States defended Australia’s killing of civilians?

As long as a normal human being, it is known that the slaughter of civilians is a crime, is not allowed by international law, and is a war crime.
The Australian government recognizes the criminal behavior of Australian soldiers, and the Australian media also criticizes these soldiers.
But after China criticized Australia, the situation changed completely.
All western governments support Australia, and all western media also support Australia.
I think this is too strange. The Australian government was still apologizing the day before, but the attitude was completely reversed the next day.
What is the psychological state of this transition? How to explain this shift?

************

My focus is how to explain this shift.
The popular opinion on the Chinese Internet is that white arrogance, white supremacy, double standards.
I want to know what people in other countries think? Do you agree with this explanation
Nothing with skin color it’s because you are chinese. If the critics come from Japan, Korea or Vietnam then Ok.

.
Boy you sure pick'em cherries real good.

You completely absolved China of her role in the millions killed in Cambodia - yup! same continent so doesn't count.
What about tens of thousands of people burnt to death in their own city - once again same continent - my bad!

You are so right China is so innocent.:china:

Like I said before Foreign Ministry level trolling isn't really bringing justice to the people killed by Australian troops.
If China really wants to be the beacon of the civilized world it will have to do more than photoshop images.
Not innocent...but notice the crucial difference - they involve themselves where it is legitimately their business. I'm talking local issues that affect their people. As for killing one's own....it's a difficult one certainly, but maybe we all need a degree of control (not killing mind you) to knock the hypergreed out of us. We need to put our national responsibility ahead of selfish greed otherwise we will drain this world and create conflict - isn't this obvious and evident from the last 100 years of the human experience?

.
We need more people to talk about human rights violations not less no matter if it is hypocritic or otherwise. Calling chinese criticism as trolling is disgusting. Infact there is not enough criticism of human rights violation in kashmir, now punjab for example.

Yea it's okay because one swallowed 2 nukes and the other Agent Orange.
So good compromise. :D

That is because China was trying to score brownie points and it backfired.
For me it's simple to understand, Australian soldiers broke the law, they were called out by their own institution and government and they also pushed for these soldiers to be dealt with - full force of the law, no easy pickings.

That is the hallmark of a strong institution, which is why everyone in the west supports them including the media. China was playing innocent here and got called out.

Difference is that in western government including Australia or any democracy for that matter. There will be checks and balances, you might be able to commit a crime but very rarely will that go unpunished. As the checks and balances are in place using different institutions vs other institutions there is no incentive to hide crimes. I cannot say the same with confidence towards China or other totalitarian regimes. In China what CCP says, goes.

They can make laws and break laws as they are the law.
This is why China got the response you highlighted.

Australia must be praised if they dont commit any crime. Australia must also be praised when they commit crime because "wow what justice what prosecution what law". Anyone criticizing it will be judged for his entire life history and whatever acts he did no matter how irrelevant to australia crimes.

The British Empire believed in might is right. This was proven over and over again as they starved millions to death, enslaved entire continents, and then rewrote themselves as the good guys. You materially benefitted from imperialism and did not issue reparations. no one held you accountable - until now. Your apologies rings hollow. If the Nazis won WW2, carried out their goals, and then apologized a few hundred years later, their words are equally hollow.

Since now someone can hold you accountable, you have no right to complain. You do not get to judge yourself. How do we know that the individuals punished are not scapegoats to deflect from overall culpability? How can we trust that Australia will not protect itself by blaming a few individuals? We can't. It isn't these individuals on trial in the eyes of the world, it is the trustworthiness of Australia.

Depends how you criticise. China's intention was to call out Australia on their lack of morality, while they hide their own acts. They got shut down and don't like it, so now they pretend they don't understand what has happened.

It doesn't matter. There must be more voices out there to speak for victims of state actors. You cannot shame a country for speaking up for victims with accusations of hypocrisy. Then no one will be there to speak for victims. All state actors nicely banding together oppressing minorities or war victims.

There were bad Brits and there were equally good Brits. If you care to read into history you would know that the system caught up with bad Brits and they were punished. I am not apologising for the dead - never will. They will answer for themselves when the time comes. We don't need China to hold us accountable, our institutions are not corrupt or blind they work just fine.

The impending trial will tell if the accused are scapegoats or actual culprits, the Australian system is trusted because it's not a totalitarian system, Australia has no intention of protecting itself - if it did they would have not come out in the media with all these facts. They did because like any developed country and a democracy they believe in rule of law. That is what democracies do.

Really? there are good brits and bad brits? if chinese come and occupy your little island. Push people in slavery. Hang signs "no dogs or brits welcome" for decades and centuries. Will you say they are good chinese and bad chinese ? has britain ever apologized for its colonialism ?

It matters, because a responsible country would take action and correct its mistakes. The said country has itself got a stellar record of covering up oppression of minorities. That is hypocrisy at its finest and was duly criticised.

"would" "could" will be seen later. But you shouldnt shut down outrage against despicable crimes with "how dare you" tone.

Clearly CCP has finally realized their denials about their own atrocities against people - Chinese and non-Chinese - are not working. Thus exposed, they now are trying a different tactic, of accusing Australia and other countries, using made up memes. Foolish.

nope, the Australian system is not trusted, otherwise there would've been no need to get mad about the tweet since it'd have no influence. The very fact that Australians got mad at the tweet and wanted it removed means that they know that others do not trust them.

the trials could easily be manipulated. let's say those individuals prosecuted are found guilty. so what? how do we know there weren't other individuals that weren't prosecuted? Nobody knows. Currently, not a single war criminal is on trial or in jail - only the whistleblower. A further stain on its reputation.

barking louder for your former colonial masters doesn't earn you more food. Have you ever wondered why so many Indians get starved to death every year?

India is a food exporter.
China is a food importer.

Both China and India have the same population. The only conclusion is, Indians eat fewer calories. But people's nutritional needs are similar worldwide... how does India make up for its calories?

It doesn't. 5 million lives per year is the price. This is a permanent famine inflicted by Indians on themselves, starving themselves for a few USD, every single year. The greatest crime of the century.

You wonder why Chinese are hostile towards your regime. Here is your answer. We are the only ones that will hold your regime accountable because everyone else is content to just buy your blood rice.
