Posted on June 27, 2013 by Dailyexcelsior

SRINAGAR : Army has busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including anti-tank and anti-personal mines, from Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
“Continued area domination operations by troops of the frontline division in Kupwara resulted in unearthing a huge cache of arms and ammunition yesterday,” a defence spokesman said today.

He said the recoveries included two anti tank mines, 55 anti personal mines, ten hand grenades, eight flame thrower tubes, eight RPG rounds, two 105mm artillery shells, 100 detonators, 1500 rounds of AK ammunition and 35 kgs of RDX explosive packed in 75 plastic containers.

“The cache was carefully concealed behind boulders and in the thick jungles on the upper reaches of the Shamsabari towards the Line of Control,” he said.
“This is a major recovery and thwarts the nefarious designs of the terrorists to disturb the fragile peace in the Kashmir Valley,” he said.
A senior army officer, Brigadier Ram Niwas said “the cache could have been used by the terrorists for violent activities in the region particularly with the Amarnath Yatra beginning tomorrow.” (AGENCIES)

The disturbing question is, how did this lot get through the border? and, how many more of this are kept in hiding? IA needs to do a clean sweep of the entire area.

@OrionHunter @Imran Khan
Arty shells can be fired by hand also.
:woot: Wow! How is that? Like a grenade? Please elucidate! Each shell weight 45 lbs by the way! Or maybe they use it like a bomb to blow themselves up!

Arty shells are used for IEDs.
Ah, thanks! I never knew that arty shells can be used as IEDs! Brilliant! :cool:

So that means either these yahoos have retrieved unexploded shells from some arty field firing ranges or the PA have been kind enough to provide them some to be used against yindoo infidels!

In both cases, it sucks! :no:

In the valley Arty shells are used for IEDs only.

As far as Anti tank weaponry goes...Indian Army used BMPs for 1or 2 operations in mid 90 so they might have kept it thinking if again tanks are used they can take them out.

But all these heavy weapons are not used these days as terrorists are on the run.
