Army working on innovations to better its combat potential

The Army is working on innovative methods to better its combat potential and has set up 15 technology centres to help it in this endeavour, its chief General V K Singh said on Tuesday. :yahoo::yahoo:

"Armed forces have been involved in innovative methods which assist them in warfare. Fifteen technological centres have been started which absorb the latest things on technology and pass it on to others (formations)," he said while inaugurating a seminar-cum-exposition here.

The seminar 'Innovation – Marking a difference to the combat potential of Indian Army' was organised by the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers here.

"These regional centres also become the repository of innovations that come up in that particular region," Singh said.

Addressing the gathering, DRDO Distinguished Scientist W Selvamurthy said to promote innovation, Army should enhance the intake of officers from the technical background.

On the important technologies developed by Army's own personnel, EME Chief Lt Gen A K S Chandele said, "Terrorists use IEDs against security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir and this is one area where our innovators have come up with anti-IED devices, which are better than the imported ones."

He said innovations displayed at the seminar are developed by Army personnel, who found better ways of using the equipment in service or modified them.
