Massive plan has been taken to reform the organizational structure of Bangladesh Armed Forces with a view to modernizing it in line with Forces Goal -2030. The 20-year long term plan would be executed in four steps each with five-year tenure.
After completion of the reformation, the army would get two new army commands, one infantry division along with all necessary brigades and units; two air defence brigades; two mechanise brigades and several other armored, artillery and engineering battalions along with supporting units.
Planning minister Air Vice Marshal AK Khandaker, also in charge of Armed Forces Division in the parliament, told the House on Tuesday, " Massive works are going on to materialize the Forces Goal-2030 keeping adjustment with the government dream project vision-2021.
Taking a question from Jafar Iqbal Siddiqui (Nilfamarai-1) during question and answer session, he further said, "As per the plan, the army will get adequate quantities of military hardware including armoured personnel carriers (APCs), modern anti-tank weaponry, anti-aircraft armaments and combat engineering equipments."
"Besides, new artillery and air defence units, naval engineering battalions, technical battalions, ordnance battalion and field hospitals will be included in the army. Already, several new weaponries, including sophisticated MBT-2000 tanks have been bought for armoured core. Besides, purchase of modern military hardware including, self-propelled guns, side ranging equipments and weapon locating RADARs are going on for the artillery. Even, several helicopters have already been bought in line with modernizing the army," he stated.
He also informed the House about the procurement of multiple launched rocket system, automatic grenade launchers, ground surveillance RADARs, local warning RADARs and military aircrafts, for the army.
Referring to different steps taken to modernize the naval force, he said, "As a part of the total plan, naval helicopters, maritime patrol aircrafts and new ships would be included in the Bangladesh Navy."
"Already two choppers have been bought from Italy to strengthening BNS Bangabandhu while five war ships including a survey vessel have also been procured from a friendly country. Besides, an 'Off the Shelf' frigate is purchased and two other corvette ships are now under manufacturing in a friendly country," he said.
Khandaker further informed the parliament that the government in principal has given approval to buy two submarines and a coast guard cutter while four LCD/LCU would be built in local shipyard.
Meanwhile, pointing upgradation of the air force, he said, "The air force is now equipped with surface-to-air missile system (SAM) to intensify security in the south-eastern region of the country. Apart from it, a contract has been signed with a friendly country to procure 16 F-7 BG1 and FT-7 BG1 fighter aircrafts. Already, the first consignment of fighters has reached here while the second consignment will reach in March this year."
"On the other hand, the installation of RADARs are going on at Cox's Bazar, Paharakanchonpur air force base, Motiur air force base and Moulavibazar region," he informed the parliament.

Good to see the army getting new divisions and brigades.
New Naval engineering battalion for the army?? Got to be some mistake here
The news also revealed that the army procured multiple launch rocket system(wonder which one). And two new corvette being built in a friendly country(type 56)
The only thing that is pi$$ing me off is that they are building 4 more of those ugly(and probably useless) indigenous LCUs
