Army ready to eat LESS so that Brethren can eat more!

The COAS has decided to provide a PORTION of Army's daily dry rations to the IDPs, Army will consume rations at a reduce scale for ONE MONTH (dates omitted).


Items to be consumed at reduced scale: (Only Dry Rations)

Atta

Sugar

Dhall

Ghee/Cooking Oil

Tea

Kerosene Oil

i have omitted the actual and reduced scales deliberately, if someone need the details, i'll give you the difference in scales (actual scale minus reduced scale).

And yes, why should COAS say it to the President and the people and other politicians should be exempted from this responsibility?

Does PA have authority to make independent decisions such as these. I am pretty sure IA would have to take permission before announcing such a decision.

It is like you are given a bread to eat daily, now whether you eat it full, throw it away or give a piece to somneone else is something that falls in your domain, as nothing more is being asked from the govt or the people! Moreover, these decisions definitely comes out after much deliberation, i'll not be surprised if the Ministry of Defence is already taken into confidence on this.

Its not a morality question i.e if something more is asked from the government or not. Its the government that allocates Military budget which includes your food expenses as well . So if Army were to take that decision, next question from Babu's would be "Hey it is we who allocate the budget, it is we who arrange all the ration, so atleast we should have been informed about this , before making a PR announcement".....Its the red tape that i am talking about ....

Hey the Babu would have been worried if these rations were being spent on feeding Kasab and others, but as it is for the IDPs so no one bothers. No one tells the military to spend its money where and how unless it is going on someone's pocket or is being misse used. If we go by your sense tomorrow the army may find the Babu telling it to buy more G3 rounds and less artillery projectiles from POF! You do give restrictions but dont tell what all and not to do.

If again we go by your sense why there was no hue an cry when the military gave a day's pay to the IDPs, i supposed our pays are also included in the budget? Why nothing went wrong when the Ministers also gave their one months pay for the IDPs? They also have an allocated budget from the govt.

There is no red tape for Army in Pakistan. You must underatand that Pakistan is for Army, Army is not for Pakistan. At any rate, they are doing a good thing, so they should be appreiciated and unquestionably.

Well that is the whole point ,across the border civilian orgs monitor Army spending so that there is accountability and to ensure that there is no misuse. This is precisely the place where issues such as these arises. Its nothing else but power play in Indian circles, showing whos the boss at the wrong time. But in PAK army is a institution not to be messed with and that makes a difference.

Having said that thanks for your inputs as i do not wish to take this thread to some other direction and thereby taking the shine away from this nice gesture by PA.

Well this is precisely what i am talking about....Politicians will not like such kind of reactions from common man and hence they advice institutions to shy away from taking such steps or will tell them that government will handle the situation , "you dont need to make sacrifice and your duty is to guard and protect the nation".

Mind you i am not saying zardari is doing something, for all that i have heard , he is not much into it and hence probably the reason why PA is doing a PR while taking such steps. They might be doing this to shake the governement out of slumber probably.

A very good gesture indeed and since it is allocated ration and not money we are talking about so the COAS can take this decision in light of situation.
This is a national crisis and Army is not giving money or military items to someone but rather sharing own food with IDPs and victims of a war who we all know are short on these items.
Army can deliver the rations to the front lines and therefore it is in best position to distribute the food items swiftly.
Instead of waiting for food consignments from various sources it has taken a good decision to speed up the relief operation by taking food directly from Army depot and supplying to the front line areas and IDP camps...this is a wise and a good decision and has been taken in wake of a national crisis

Regarding the autonomy of Army and no red tape hindering its way, I have to say that there are many government institutes which are doing nearly zero for the country and still getting quite a lot of budget (in relevance to their task), where the money is spend only Allah knows...
I am not saying Army is full of puritans and saints, just that it has a better track record than any other state function when it comes to efficiently controlling and auditing its own budget and also maintaining its functionality to a reasonable degree...by functionality i mean once again in relevance to its task which is to take on Indian Army in conventional war which has way more budget, resources etc.
Still as per all assessments, PA poses a credible deterrence to its counterparts across the border so i guess they are managing themselves reasonably.

Anyways to cut it short, excellent gesture shown by the Army and will be quite helpful to the refugees when looked at from a practical aspect as well!

The wonderful person in your avatar is the only Pakistani politician i know who really did make tremendous personal sacrifices for Pakistan and its people.
He also donated his property and belongings to Pakistan instead of passing on to his family.

If these current ones even do 1% in way of personal sacrifice of the great leader, no hurdle is big enough for us to overcome.

They all like to claim titles and slogans like Shaheed Bhutto ka mission,Khadim e Aalaa, Quaid this and Quaid that, Pakistan Khappay etc. etc...the titles and slogans go on and on...
if only they sincerely try to achieve what they claim in their titles, i am sure we shall have a very strong, stable and prosperous Pakistan within a single decade!

why not COAS can ask the president, about that looted money of pakistan? he was on the forfront making a deal with BB ?also Our dear COAS was the keyman for putting NRO crap, from the gen. Musharaf side ,along with MR,Tariq Aziz?
Here is a simple question! for the required Elaboration!

by doing this great gesture, can COAS fullfill the all the hungry & effected peoples living in the camps, specialy when they are in the digts like 2 million?
every body knows , in the world that OUR hounrable COAS is the most power full man in the pakistan,i guss tht, he can advise (dictate) the politicians like our hounrable president
