Punjab Police have seized photographs of restricted areas and Army manuals from Lovedeep Singh, the alleged spy.
The Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested an Army clerk on spying charges and seized photographs of restricted areas, Army manuals and a handmade sketch of military installations from him.
The accused, Lovedeep Singh, a clerk in the Faridkot Army cantonment, is alleged to be working for Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the police said.
"Lovedeep, who is a resident of Park Avenue, Faridkot, was acting as an ISI spy. We have recovered photographs of restricted areas and army manuals from him. A handmade sketch of military installations was also found in his possession," state special operations cell (SSOC) inspector Harvinder Singh said.
According to the police, Lovedeep was arrested on the basis of specific inputs provided by a SSOC team from the Canal bridge, Faridkot Bypass. A case under Sections 3, 4, 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 120-B of the IPC has been registered against the accused. Lovedeep will be produced in a court where the police will seek his custody for further questioning.
"The preliminary investigation has revealed that Lovedeep was engaged by the ISI officials around 18 months back. The accused, in exchange of money, was providing them with information about the movement of Army units in Faridkot, Ferozpur and Fazilka sectors and construction of new bunkers on Indian side of the border," Singh said.
The police officer added that the accused was also sending the ISI handlers the photographs of Army vehicles along with their formation plans, Army exercises and training besides information about any new activity.
