Army claims 80% of Mohmand cleared

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army claimed that it had cleared a major part of the Mohmand tribal area of militants and the operation being conducted in the region would be completed in a few days, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik said that the army had reclaimed 80 to 85 per cent area of the Mohmand Agency.

He said that the army was clearing the region of land mines so that internally displaced people (IDPs) belonging to Mohmand can return to the area and remain safe.

Mr Malik informed journalists that 72 soldiers, including three officers, had embraced martyrdom during the operation.

He said that the large number of IDPs belonging to the tribal region had returned to their homes and others would come back soon.

It should be cause for concern that 300 insurgents massed and it went unnoticed - Kunar province itself is perhaps as policed as the FATA is, which means Pakistani SSG, if they were even half as competent as the Pakistan army make them out to be, would have had a field day there and many a Islamist insurgent would be dead -- but instead, the Pakistan army, points fingers at the Afghan and the US/NATO, as if such finger pointing will somehow put an end to such attacks -- the only way to put an end to such attacks is to kill the attackers, something that Pakistan army can't see to do, as it's competence is now apparently more of a religious quality than one employed by professional armies, namely killing the enemies of Pakistan.


It seems Pakistan will be attacked even more severely by these insurgents who were once recruited and trained by the Pakistani state as their proxies, but who now have ideas of their own as to who the enemy is.

You sound as if you are in a great deal of "pain" for Pakistan , instead of calling Pakistan military as "coward" & SSG "Incompetent" how about you go out in the field with a gun and teach those "Islamist insurgents" a lesson ?

Its easy to come , sit in a chair with a cup of flat white , log into your Def.pk ID and give a "scholarly lecture" over the incompetence of our military but it is hard to go out in 0 degree temps with a G3 in your hand , far away from your family on Eid day , wondering in the barren , savageness of FATA mountains looking for an enemy which rarely shows up.
