Argentina Considering To Purchase 12 JF17C Worth 664Million Dollars

Wouldn't those Falcons offend UK
Not at all. As UK will be able to control or assert which weapons could only be configured on those Falcons. 40 year old Falcons with pre-programmed limited functionality is win win for UK and US.

Also Argentina may want to give a signal that its tired of UK's embargoes and is not looking to threat Falklands in anyways. So win win for all.

Say what you want - when Nigeria & Myanmar are the only customers with total of 20 aircraft you are not scaring anyone. Do you want any tidbits on the professionalism of those militaries ?

For PAF it is simple. Other than the F-16s they do not have any choices - Mirage III, Mirage-V, J-7 are 1960s era combat aircraft. Rafale and Typhoon cost $200 million per aircraft. The Flankers and MiG-35s cost $100 million per aircraft with inferior subsystems. Building a domestic platform is too expensive and time consuming,
Hi,

Okay---if that makes you happy---.

Which nation would trust the assembled mess from India called tejas? It's a nightmare for India itself.
But it keeps the low iq Indian bureaucrats and the so called "stem" grads employed. The Tejas program should be encouraged to be continued, it has become a black hole where no real progress is being made and the only ones benefitting are politicians and bureaucrats.

According to my Argentinian Friends. MiG-35 and Tejas are “very much not” in the running for the tender. The only two options are the F-16 and the JF-17. The F-16 honestly makes far more logistical and political sense for Argentina. Logistical because their current A4F use a bunch of components from the F-16 and political because then any issue remains in the west and China isn’t introduced into the south Asian fighter marker.
Currently the US has submitted a request to Britain to clear the sale of the aircraft, but with the British change in rulers it might throw a spanner in the progress if any had been made.

The original plan was to sell F-16 Block 40s to Argentina and locally upgrade them to block 50. Then it changed to offering them even older Danish F-16 MLUs, now they’re back to offering Block 40 (but maybe without the upgrade package). We’ve no idea of the munitions that will be provided but rest assured US will control their BVRs and AShMs. Also block 50/52+ and Beyond have British components, so they’re not an option anyways. Newest they can get is Block 50/52.

Obviously the F-16 has its inherent advantages in size and range, speed and maneuvering etc, but The Block 3 will easily outdo it in armament. That being said, it’s really still anyones game because Argentina has a say in his things go too, despite American pressure. So we have no idea who they will pick and when they will do it, if at all. There might just be so many political hurdles that we won’t see them buy a new fighter for several years still.
Buying F-16 means they will forever be under the USA control, not to mention the part-and-repair slavery that will come with it!

Anything American is a death trap if you want to use it without any restriction against your enemy. Argentinians would be fool even if they get F35s from US against Brits.
For now, I don't think Argentinians would be looking to lock horn with UK again over Falkland's. For them, this is capability boost anyways -although we can debate on how much-. But in the end, its all about politics and US has the upper hand in politics for now.

Looks like Argentina's hand has been forced as was the case with Nigeria Malasia and Iraq. To make inroads in to the international market for fighter jets Pakistan needs to set up a production facility in Saudi Arabia.
Making a factory in Saudi Arabia wont help. GCC is not the market for JF-17 as the resource rich kingdoms can have no problems in acquiring top notch military equipment. Remember that even with all the development, JF-17 is slated to be the Mig-21 of the future. The customers of JF-17 can be countries like Serbia, Jordan, Iraq, Somalia, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, Morroco and Kenya etc who can't afford the top of the shelf stuff but need capabilities to keep them upto date with the evolving conflicts.
South Korea is a good example who has been able to make significant inroads in the aircraft market without any political push. Likewise, Turkey is a good example whose drone have been able to develop a market of their own due to quality and capabilities.
Pakistan needs to develop a robust system of export credit for ensuring sales as cash sales are not gonna bring you many consumers from the target niche.

I believe US would have taken UK onboard -unofficially- before any notification. These F-16s will be like those of Iraq and Egypt who wouldn't be able to pose any threat to UK assets in Falklands. Nevertheless, as per US notification, the aircrafts would not use any british systems/sub-systems to circumvent any potential embargoe from UK. However, we all know that UK is US's closest ally -after Israel-. So if UK demands an embargo, US can quickly kill the support and spares for the Argentina.

Good for JF-17, if Argentina buys it.

But Pakistan and China should build twin engine JF-17's.

Hi,

Jf-17 is the Pakistni / chinese Gripen NG---.

It now faces an extreme uphill battle to be sold to any country---for the US has found out how capable the BLK3 aircraft is---. In other words---with its complete weapons package---it is as capable as the gripen NG, BLK70 F-16 or the Rafale.

Keeping those capabilities in mind---the US will try its utmost to block the sale of this aircraft and offer them F16's---.

Hi,

No---they are TOOTHLESS---have their fangs taken out---. Totally worthless---.

However, what if push comes to shove you won't want something that can be embargoed and grounded hence anything non american non european makes a lot of sense for Argentina.

If Argentina is going to buy US F16, it's stupid.

Well every plane is a "mig 21 " of the future , yes technology does age. It's selling point is that it is the best "value" jet in the market. Per buck it has has the best punch as the Indians found out. The Block 3 is even better and its evolution is making it even better.

Sorry but JF-17 is not Grippen NG or F-16 Block 70/V level. It's at best Block 50/52 but still lacks the crucial punch which forced PAF to go for J-10s which are Block 70/72/V /Rafale/Grippen NG level aircrafts. I bet Even PAF would take Block 50/52 if offered in competition with JF-17 Block III.
