One thing I can't see clearly is the relations between Russia and Turkey, they seem to be getting closer against US and Turkey is supposed to switch to Russia for defence contracts, yet they both never hesitate to attack each other's very core interest, their love and hate relationship is beyond comprehension.

Turkey reaffirms its support for Ukraine's sovereignty
Turkey supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and does not recognize the annexation of Crimea, the foreign ministry said on March 16.

Frenemies if you ask me...
So both friends and enemies at the same time..

The black sea and the passage through Turkey to the Med (Mediterranean Sea) is the main cause of that.

.
Couples of years ago Turkey shot down a Russian jet and killed its pilot, A Russia Ambassador was shot dead in Ankara and Russia didn't retaliate, the restraint Russia showed is unbelievable, don't know what's really going on between them.

Russia needs Turkey's friendship more than the other way around.. i think...

I believe the oppostie is true, Turkey can get a lot from Russia but Russia can't really get much from Turkey.
Turkey needs the EU and the Americans more than Russia... Just look at where the major Turkish cities and tourist areas are : west-Turkey.

Plus, how is Russia ever going to reach the Med efficiently (and their new naval base in Syria) without Turkish approval?

I dare Turkey to block the strait, Russia doesn't have to befriend Turkey to have the unrestricted passage.

These two historically fought a lot but could kiss each other a few moments after. It means that they are players!

Are you sure? I guess you forget that you had need permission from Turkey for the passage of Varyag. You didn't understand the importance of the Bosphorus..

Russia and other Black Sea countries have rights, with Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits

China is not a treaty country in that region, did Turkey ever block Russia navy from going in and out of the Black Sea?

Not as long as it follows the rules. The Varyag aircraft carrier has reached to China with Turkey's permission.
Don't think the international relations and agreements as a chinese.

'' Turkey originally stopped the Varyag from passing through its waters until a Chinese deputy foreign minister flew to Ankara to ink a $360 million aid package and a tourism deal to help a purported private company with no ties to the government in securing its $20 million purchase. ''

That's a Chinese ship after the purchase and China is not a signature state of that treaty, I m talking about Russia, you can't stop Russian ships from going in and out of the Black sea, you can try and see what will happen.

Turkey and Russia are historic enemies They both have competing vital interests in Caucasus, Crimea and the Balkans. The Dardanelles in Turkey controls all the marine traffic between Black Sea and the Mediterranean Ocean and is vital to Russian interests in Middle East. The current Turkey and US tensions has given rise to this frenemy relationship between Turkey and Russia. US and Turkey must resolve their issues since Russia taking advantage of this situations. This tension is not in the long term interests of both Turkey and USA.

Don't doubt we'll intervene when they don't obey the rule like Varyag ship.
