macOS Big Sur update causes slow and lagging MacBook
Those users who managed to download the new update for their system expressed several complaints. Some reported that their devices were unable to boot up. The devices faced these problems while simultaneously being connected to monitors via Thunderbolt. Apple released a short guide to overcome this issue. Moreover, there are still issues that Apple has failed to address.

One user said, “Since I downloaded big sur I loved the new features but everything started to crash and lagged, apps except finder and browsers aren’t opening, and the better finishes in less than an hour. My laptop fans start opening in a sec as I play games. ” The comment section makes it apparent that a large number of users are facing the same problem.

Users experienced heavy lag and excessive heating up after the new update. One of the most common complaints stated excessive stuttering after the new update. Users state that moving windows or closing applications on their device emphasizes the lagging. One MacBook Pro 16 user also mentioned that some actions are also being delayed. This new update has caused severe lagging and slow functions in MacBook.

Tips and tricks
Apple has not publicly acknowledged the problem nor provided any fix. However, users have discovered several tips and tricks to overcome this situation. One user said, “This really works! Just go System Preferences -> Batter -> And Battery in left side menu. I already wanted to reinstall whole system.” Apparently, turning off the Automatic Graphics Switching feature is fixing the problem.

If the above solution does not work for you, try SMC reset. SMC reset reportedly made significant improvements for this issue. A step by step guide to do this says, “1. Shut down your Mac. 2. On your built-in keyboard, press and hold all of the following keys. Your Mac might turn on: – Control on the left side of your keyboard – Option (Alt) on the left side of your keyboard – Shift on the right side of your keyboard 3. Keep holding all three keys for 7 seconds, then press and hold the power button as well. If your Mac is on, it will turn off as you hold the keys. 4. Keep holding all four keys for another 7 seconds, then release them.5. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.”
