Beijing has rejected calls for an apology after a Chinese official shared a doctored poster of an Australian soldier attacking an Afghan girl, urging Canberra to instead seek forgiveness for its war crimes in Afghanistan.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison demanded an official apology from Beijing after Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian posted a tweet calling for justice over a recent war-crimes report released in Australia – with an illustration of an Aussie soldier holding a knife to a child’s throat.
Shocked by murder of Afghan civilians & prisoners by Australian soldiers. We strongly condemn such acts, &call for holding them accountable. pic.twitter.com/GYOaucoL5D

But Beijing appears to be standing by Lijian. Hua Chunying, who also serves as a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, insisted that the Chinese government had nothing to apologize for.

The Australian government should bring the culprits to justice and offer an official apology to the Afghan people and make the solemn pledge that they will never repeat such crimes. They said that the Chinese government should feel ashamed. It is Australian soldiers who committed such cruel crimes. Shouldn’t the Australian government feel ashamed? Shouldn’t they feel ashamed for their soldiers killing innocent Afghan civilians?” she said during a press briefing on Monday.

The ministry spokesperson also accused the Australian government of reacting “strongly” to Lijan’s tweet, while not showing similar anger over evidence of a string of unlawful killings in Afghanistan revealed by the recently released report.
Does that mean that they think the cold blood murder of Afghan innocent civilians is justified while other people’s condemnation of such crimes are not justified? Afghan lives matter.
Morrison described the post as a “false image, and a terrible slur on our great defense forces,” and urged Twitter to delete the message. The social media platform instead opted to “hide” the image for some users, adding a warning that the post contains “potentially sensitive content.”

An official four-year investigation that ended earlier this month found “credible evidence” of war crimes committed by elite Australian troops in Afghanistan. The report identified evidence of 39 unlawful killings carried out by Aussie forces in the country. Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne wrote to her Afghan counterpart and “extended apologies for the misconduct identified by the inquiry, by some Australian military personnel.” Morrison also discussed the report with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

China should raise the issue to UN and make sure the murders punished.

@tower9 this is an example of how China isn't so bad at soft power compared to 99.9% of countries in the world; they just aren't tested as often as China is. When tested, most countries fail much harder.

All Scott Morrison had to do was shut up. Literally, he did not have to respond to this tweet at all. If asked could've just said that "a Prime Minister does not have the time to look into every little tweet, but if it is shown that Australian soldiers are responsible for any criminal acts, they will be lawfully punished" and he would've looked cool and in control.

Instead he threw a tantrum. Zhao pinned the tweet, and now it's going viral worldwide. Australians are flocking to 'defend themselves' with whataboutism and racial slurs, also going viral worldwide.

Fvck these aussie animals.
You do realize that Australia investigated it, and is actively punishing the people involved, right?

Unlike some other nations that pretend they've never commit a single human rights violation, Australia is actively trying to fix itself. This should be applauded, not condemned.

Australia thinks that she is a saint until she sees the mirror and sees her own ugliness.
So Australia asks the person who made the mirror to apologize

The flag of Afghanistan is a jigsaw puzzles with missing pieces, meaning the country is fragmented;
The Australian flag is overlaid on the flag of Afghanistan, meaning aggression;
There are several corpses under the Australian flag, meaning to cover up the crime of murder;
Australian soldiers kill children but don't kill sheep. This runs counter to the idea of God indicating that sheep should be used as sacrifices in the Bible. It is definitely a double irony of the humanity and beliefs of Australian soldiers.

Investigated and then? US didn't even wanna sign the war crimes tribunal. They know the shit they did there man.

So holy ozland is now same as evil China? How ironic.

By bringing attention to the tweet, Morrison just brought more attention to the war crimes story.

One of the biggest own goals I’ve ever seen.

Please don't start with this. These punishments are farces in almost all western countries, there's a whole list of these disgusting animals being pardoned soon after and even their punishment is nothing compared to what real war criminals get. Here's a prime example from less than a year ago:

The US is not Australia, just like Pakistan is not Afghanistan.

Your comparison is flawed.

Already, a number of military units have been completely disbanded. The accused are already being charged, and unlike in the US, where there was a reluctance to prosecute soldiers, there is no such reluctance in Australia.

Australia isn't the US, what on earth are you on about?

Australia is already actively punishing those accused.

even animals have instincts to love their own life, trust those who help them and fear/hate those who harm them. so how come you are so quick to defend and trust those who are likely to harm you?

not really, he's giving a wink or dog whistle to the people that support this crimes and who he needs to win the next election. saying, look I'm more outraged by china ridiculing us than I am of the crimes committed.
