I do reenactment and portray an Officer during Renaissance time of my hometown Lucca as well as a roman Praetorian Guard.
That means i and my friends wear historic uniforms at events here and perform at festivals and historic events.
We also get fight training and its always much fun until now.
We got a new trainer and she is extremly serious about this. I like her approach but i think training must also be fun and not just serious.
I dont understand her. At one side she honors my abilities and says my skills are great and likes how i mix athletic jumps, agility and strength, but at other side she uses evry mistake to push criticism and blames personality.
Today for example i had a little sparring with my friend. We laughed and joked a bit.
She stepped in and said "Its not a game"...That my technique is terrible and it looks like i have no desire to improve"...
I told her its just practice among friends...
So she took my buddies training sword and started sparing with me. Well she used a mistake i made and pushed the training sword pretty hard against my shoulder...told me that i overextended my reach as usual and because of that i would be dead now. The problem would be that i´m too full of myself"
I honestly dont get this. I think its easier to learn with positive feedback. I have highest respect for her skills. But she appears always so dark and pretty negative that it is kinda hard to have fun during training.
So if you do training or teach others how do you do it? Positive feedback or the "hard way"?
