my father is both strong mentally and physically .. But he is lil tensed with doctors word as he insisting cancerous condition... am more tensed not getting sleep...


Digital rectal examination.. performing with finger... yes he didn't performed..


he can walk freely.. there is no back pain ...as far as i know...

Do take the advice of multiple docs bro,my dad's also doing the same.

i contacted my cousin in UK.. he told me.. It depends on the age and prostate size.. so it could be non cancerous... though he is not sure...

So my dad took tablets for one month, and now in the latest scans his condition has improved greatly. However,the doc still hinted at surgery,coz if his condition reverses in future,his age can be a hinderence for the surgery.

my dad suffering with urination related problem from past few weeks. . After consulting Doctor ..enlarged prostate (BPH) is diagnosed. .Medicines gave partial relief ... Doc suggested for surgery .. Done some tests... After looking the results got doubt about Prostate cancer. ...
Prostate size ..63gm
Dad age nearly 60
PSA 4.44ng
free PSA 0.59ng
Doctor said need biopsy as PSA crossed 2.5ng ..PSA shouldn't cross 2.5ng ..There is possibility of cancer ... i am worried about it... Is there possibility of cancer ...

What are the cut off level for PSA...

even if PSA levels are extremely high , Ca. prostate can be suspected, not diagnosed. the only way to diagnosis is Biopsy. BPH/NPH (nodular prostatic hyperplasia) majority result to urinary obstruction, while cancer doesn't have that frequent dysuria symptoms. Even in BPH cases , medicines can give partial result . so no need to panic. do a biopsy , then only it can be diagnosed as said by many ppl before me. PSA as like many tumor marker can be use in follow up of disease not diagnosis. Hope it helps.

strange in a way that doctors normally order another test . increase in bound PSA can have a heck lot of reasons .

an increase in albumine blood levels (if i'm not wrong ) can be the cause for ex.

Given his clinical symptom of urination problem and lab test (PSA), I would check up on it with further test.
As you said, biopsy would confirm the diagnosis. Only then we will know if its BPH or if its more serious like cancer.
