Unperturbed by the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Projects first reactor attaining criticality on Saturday night, the Peoples Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), which is spearheading the anti-nuclear agitation in this region continuously for the past two years, has announced that it would continue its struggle against the KKNPP.
A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting attended by community leaders from various coastal villages in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts at Idinthakarai on Sunday.
As per the PMANEs decision, fishermen from the three districts will abstain from fishing operations on Monday (July 15) and black flags will be hoisted in all villages that support anti-KKNPP agitation and all shops in these villages will remain closed.
A protest, depicting the serious threats being posed by nuclear installations to mankind, will be conducted at Idinthakarai on Monday evening.
The community leaders will meet at Idinthakarai again on next Sunday (July 21) for another round of discussion, S.P. Udayakumar, anti-KKNPP struggle committee convener said after the meeting.
