NEW DELHI: Thisara Perera dismissed Virat Kohli to
give Sri Lanka vital breakthrough in the first ODI of
the five-match series against India
Kohli continued his dream run as he scored his
third successive century against Sri Lanka. He took
106 balls for his 12th ODI ton that included nine
fours.
Sri Lanka finally got rid of Virender Sehwag when
he got run-out on 96 in the first ODI of the five-
match series against Sri Lanka in Hambantota.
Angelo Mathews struck to give Sri Lanka another
breakthrough in quick succession dismissing Rohit
Sharma in the 34th over of the innings.
Sehwag made a return to international circuit with
a swashbuckling knock, smacking 10 fours in his
97-ball stay at the crease. Sehwag and Kohli stitched
173-run stand for the second wicket to set the
foundation for Indian to post the big total on the
board.
Kohli continued his dream run as he notched up his
22nd ODI fifty smashing four boundaries. Sehwag
slammed 60-ball fifty to put India into comfortable
position at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International
Cricket Stadium.
Sehwag started his innings on a shaky note and was
dropped on nought before reaching his 33rd ODI
fifty that included six boundaries. The duo of
Sehwag and Kohli took India past 100 run in the
19th over of the innings.
Sehwag and Kohli completed fifty runs partnership
for the second wicket in 61 balls after losing
Gautam Gambhir early to steady Indian innings.
India lost an early wicket when Gambhir was clean
bowled by Nuwan Kulasekara in the third over.
The breakthrough for Sri Lanka came after Indian
captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and
chose to bat.
India go in with two spinners in R Ashwin and
Pragyan Ojha, while Irfan Pathan has been
included as an all-rounder.
Dope-tainted leg-spinner Rahul Sharma has been
left out of the playing XI.
For Sri Lanka, Rangana Herath is back replacing
Jeevan Mendis.
Barring the Indian Premier League, India have not
been in action since their last international outing
in South Africa in March.
