Humanitarian, activist and Hollywood star Angelina Jolie arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday afternoon to support and directly speak to families affected by floods. Jolie is currently in Dadu, Sindh where she is visiting surveying damage caused by the floods.

According to a press release issued by the International Rescue Committee, Jolie has arrived to witness and gain an understanding of the situation and to hear from people about their needs and steps to prevent such suffering in the future.

The actor reportedly arrived in Dadu’s Zamzama oil fields via helicopter and used a boat to survey the area in Johi and its surrounding areas. She is expected to provide aid to flood affected people.

Jolie previously visited Pakistan in 2010 and 2005 to meet victims of the earthquakes. She is currently visiting as part of the the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) emergency response operations.

The Maleficent actor will highlight the urgent support needed for the people of Pakistan and long-term solutions to address the crises of climate change and human displacement.

In the press release, the IRC hoped that her visit will prompt the international community — particularly the US that contributes the most to carbon emissions — to act and provide urgent support to countries bearing the brunt of the climate crisis.

IRC Pakistan Country Director Shabnam Baloch said, “The climate crisis is destroying lives and futures in Pakistan, with severe consequences especially for women and children. The resulting economic loss from these floods will likely lead to food insecurity and an increase in violence against women and girls. We need immediate support to reach people in urgent need, and long term investments to stop climate change from destroying our collective futures. With more rains expected in the coming months, we hope Angelina Jolie’s visit will help the world wake up and take action.”

The Committee’s latest assessment reveals that people are in urgent need of food, clean drinking water, shelter and healthcare. A survey reported that women and young girls have no access to menstrual hygiene products either. The IRC has reached more than 50,000 women and girls with humanitarian assistance, including hygiene kits to address the sanitary concerns raised by women.

Much better than our own Pakistani ‘celebrities’ or tv actors, who can only tweet when its their flavour of the day causes…..

Hopefully this also shows the incompetent local/prov govt and the callous non-existing local efforts of the feudals and politicians and the bhutto clan.

Maybe now these ppl will actually be helped a bit…..otherwise all we hear in news are the siyasat-namas daily

She can give good lip service. I mean, seriously, with those lips that she has.

Pakistan should try cooperation with its true well wishers. It can't be worse than the current situation in which Pakistani airspace has become USA's free high way.

Thanks Angelina God bless you .
Surprised she’s returned since what occurred last time . Hope the crooked corrupt bastard government and its high up friends keep there dirty paws off her this time .

The philanthropist, soft-hearted world’s number one female actress, Angelina Julie is not at all happy with her visit to Pakistan to see the flood victims. She came here, held the hands of the victims, made donations, stood up with the miseries of the people, denied any photo sessions, met with the aid agencies, but then she talks about the darker side of the things.

She is not happy with the attitude of the authorities and the government, who were more interested in toeing her line, watching her make movements, trying to please her while pushing the flood victims. She was also perturbed at the Prime Minister’s wish that his family wanted to meet him. Prime Minster’s family was especially flown down all the way from Multan to Islamabad and they presented expensive gifts to Jolie and had a sumptuous meal with her.

She said that she was feeling awful at that time to see so much food at the table, suffice for hundreds of flood victims who were fighting like crazy to get a small bag of flour and a small bottle of water. She was ill at ease when she saw the interior of lavish Premier house and some of the government buildings and the chartered planes and other such luxuries, when there was so much misery outside.

In her report to the United Nations, she has recommended UN to ask Pakistani government to first cut down on their expenses and to first cut down their luxuries before asking the aid from the world.
