NZ envoy regrets TV host's racist slur against Dikshit
NZ envoy regrets TV host's racist slur against Dikshit - Hindustan Times

India Thursday summoned New Zealand High Commissioner Rupert Holborow over comments by a TV anchor on Delhi Chief Minister Dikshit and said the "racist" remarks were "totally unnacceptable" and should be "condemned by all right thinking people and nations". The ministry of external affairs (MEA) issued a strong demarche to the New Zealand envoy. Holborow met Secretary (East) Lata Reddy.

Earlier this week, New Zealand TV anchor Paul Henry made offensive remarks on air about how Dikshit's name should be pronounced. He also made derogatory remarks about Indians.

In a strongly worded statement, the ministry hoped that New Zealand government would take immediate "demonstrative action" against the journalist.

"It was conveyed to him (New Zealand envoy) that the government strongly and unequivocally denounces the racist remarks of the journalist in question," the statement said.

"It is shocking that such bigoted views have been aired by representative of a mainstream media organisation of a multi-ethnic democracy like New Zealand," it added.

"These remarks are totally unacceptable to India and should be condemned by all right thinking people and nations," it added.

"It is hoped that the government of New Zealand would take immediate demonstrative action against the said individual to send out a clear signal that such behavior is totally unacceptable."

The statement said the envoy conveyed his "deep regret for the hurt caused by the comments of the media commentator which he characterised as culturally insensitive, inappropriate and vulgar and certainly not the views of the government of New Zealand."

The high commissioner also acknowledged the "vital contribution" of the chief minister to the Commonwealth Games.

MEA sources said that the Indian high commissioner in New Zealand had also "suitably taken up this matter with the New Zealand government".

I also came across a lot of white people making fun of the Muslim name "Habib".

The envoy regrets that. end of story

on the other hand desi names are most of the times difficult for goras to pronounce correctly just like we can not pronounce their names correctly.

Its another matter that in this case dixit sounds like some slurs

why habib?

Have no idea but they always purposely pronounce the "bib" much louder...like Hah....and then all of a sudden very loudly pronounce "Bib".

Other Indian names that white people are interested in are "Anil", "Sukdeep", "Shetty", "Mandip" etc etc.

Another case of ' Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional"

Childish stupidity and complete display of lack of professionalism. The selection process of the organization he worked for needs review.

India summons New Zealand envoy over ridicule of Delhi chief - Telegraph

Controversial Breakfast show host Paul Henry caused an outcry when he burst into fits of laughter while saying Mrs Dikshit's name, pronouncing it 'Dick ****.'

He had earlier been suspended after he asked the country's prime minister whether its first Indian Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand, was "even a New Zealander," provoking allegations of racism.

His latest comments brought a swift complaint from India's Ministry of External Affairs, which summoned the country's High Commissioner Rupert Holborow to explain them.

In a statement, Mr Holborow said his government deeply regretted the offence Mr Henry had caused.

"These remarks were culturally insensitive, inappropriate and vulgar. They reflect the views of only one media commentator (who has already been censored for other racist and unacceptable comments), and certainly not the New Zealand Government or people," he said.

He also paid tribute to Mrs Dikshit, a popular Congress politician who was given an ovation by spectators at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony last Sunday. "I would also like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the vital contribution the Chief Minister has made to the Commonwealth Games," he said.

This is Sir Anand Satyanand the governer general of New Zealand, the most respected position in the country.

Perhaps you might think before you label everyone in NZ as a racist over the comments of one stupid tv presenter.

Yes every country has idiots some even get tv programs but it doesnt make everyone else a pig.

source:
In an interview on Television New Zealand's Breakfast on Monday, Henry, to the prime minister's obvious discomfort, asked whether Sir Anand was a "real" New Zealander.

"Is he even a New Zealander?" Henry asked. ''Are you going to choose a New Zealander who looks and sounds like a New Zealander this time?''
