Nothing explains better Pakistan’s failure to make good public policy decisions than the recent example where rather than sell a nonfunctional state owned company worth exactly PKR 300 (three hundred rupees) in return for giving 51% control of the company.

Please read the thread below to understand the sort of really idiotic decisions that are continuously made in Pakistan. It’s often easy to play blame games, but the problems facing Pakistan are system level problems and simple blame games won’t add any value.

More explanations. The more you read this story, the more you understand why Pakistan’s economy just doesn’t grow. Every good idea is shot down, because people don’t bother to read or examine the facts.

It's not Pakistan's fault but how multinationals conduct businesses in questionable ways. Just look at Reko Diq contract, IPP contracts, LNG contracts, not a single contract Pakistan made ended in its favor in long term. Why? Because Pakistanis do not have a real economy.

Dude, this has nothing to do with multinationals. Did you read the thread? The board of the “multinational” company is made up of former state bank of Pakistan officials and other reputable individuals. The idea was to provide loans to small and medium enterprises, who otherwise, wouldn’t be able to get conventional loans. The lack of funding makes Pakistani companies less competitive and prevents them from growing or competing globally.

The entire contribution of the Pakistani taxpayer was Pakistani rupees 300 (less than $3) but would have gained 49% stake. Billions of rupees worth of funds were wasted because of the paranoid and strange mentality of Pakistani officials. And ultimately, the money, which was initially funded by the British government, has to be remitted back to the UK. So, Pakistan loses twice.

Let’s stop excusing away dumb decisions. There’s no excuse for incompetence.

Mate you think lack of funding stops Pakistani companies from competing globally. Trust me no lcel of capital can make them compete globally. The last 40 years have pushed the nation 400 years back. Morally corrupt and incapable.
Man get a life you are reacting on Tribune fake bloody news????

I disagree with this. Pakistani startups are attracting massive amounts of findings from international investors. In fact, during Q2 of this years, investments on Pakistani startups grew by a whopping 114% and many people consider this to be just the tip of the iceberg.

Couple years ago, Pakistan hardly had any startups, let alone ones strong enough to attract foreign investments. But due to the PML’s prioritization of the IT sector through the creation of tech incubation centers, many young Pakistani entrepreneurs set up their own startups. Bykea, Airlift, Careem, Finja etc have invested back into the Pakistani market and have hired thousands of Pakistanis and helped create a culture of innovation.

Governments can play a helpful role by encouraging small and medium enterprises through loan programs and improving infrastructure. This will transform nations. There’s no question about that.

Pakistani government by definition is lazy, unimaginative at the brink of being just retarded, no matter who runs it. IK is trying to steer a ship whose rudder is broken, sails are torn apart and ballast leaking.
