What's new

An average Pakistani consumes 130 Kilos of wheat per year.

And whatever milk we drink beyond childhood is mostly overkill. Only 18% of Indians are lactose tolerant.

Milk production is mostly for turning into other dairy products (mostly yoghurt, paneer and ghee etc in India)....which I believe the specific lactose intolerance found in most Indian populations (for say raw milk) does not apply as much.

I know yoghurt is quite a staple in my immediate family....but we are not intolerant to milk (mostly) either.

.
The tallest people in India are now Keralites ( as per govt stats - which can be googled ) - their diet is mostly rice, fish and coconut. Hardly any wheat and meat is less common than fish.

Really nice picture!

What kind of roti is this? Looks like it could feed a whole family! Is it Pakistani or Afghan?
Waziristan.......

Yeah that's the big reason Indians are big on yoghurt and paneer. I drink my share of milk but my wife can't. She has almond or soya milk.

An average American consumes 120 Kg of meat , and 63 Kilos of wheat per year.
An average Pakistani consumes just 20 kilos of meat and 130 Kilos of wheat per year.

The apparent low consumption of meat and very high consumption of wheat in Pakistan is due to our dietary habits which comprises of "Roti Salan".
For an American a bowl full of meat balls can be dinner , but a Pakistani will never eat a bowl of "Koftay" on it's own . It will have to be accompanied by two three roti.
Being the largest consumer per capita of wheat, we get out main nutrition from wheat .
Meat contains 52% proteins and about 15% fats , and wheat has about 28% proteins and 3% fat , but with the added benefit of high quantity of carbohydrates which meat lacks. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the body.

For a Pakistani, his roti is the main source of proteins . Requirements of fats is met by consuming milk and dairy, in which Pakistan ranks 4th in the world in both production and consumption. Then the amount of oil we use while cooking is also much higher than western countries. That too is our source of fats.

Overall we are not doing too bad in meeting our dietary needs. It's just that the composition of our food is different from developed countries.

Although it may be pointed out that we Pakistanis as a matter of habit don't eat much fish and fruit. Fruit is consumed mainly in the month of Ramazan and Fish is a few times an year delicacy. We will benefit from increasing the consumption of sea food as a source if proteins, fats and other nutrients, and fruits as dietary supplement for Vitamins.

How can wheat provide proteins ? Meat or milk will be better

Rice make you small and weak. Milk, wheat and meat make you strong and well build. Pak milk consumption per capita is 5-6 times higher then India.

any scientific evidence for this ??
China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines are all rice based diets

.
Then it is expected that the average Pakistani will undergo a revolution.
With all them carbs, the only thing they will have is subcutaneous bodyfat if they don't expend all that excess carbs-

Which is why Pakistanis are always kn edge, ready to explode and have stupid conflicts or make babies because all that excess energy food needs some outlet.

. . .
Rice I'll give India that, they eat more rice on per capita basis. But real deal is wheat, everyone eat roti unless he can't afford it.
Rice is more costlier than wheat in India. Consumption of millets & lentils is also higher. There is more variety of food available in India as such wheat is not the metric to compare against.

Yaar, whatever percentage but I have seen these Wazir tribesmen surviving on almost 90% diet of wheat alone. Lunch and dinner would be Onion salt and three naan each time
and they are so physically fit and tough.

Fitness is more about what you physically do than what you eat (Esp expending the energy). You can have pretty low protein diet and still be tough and strong as hell....your body will make excellent use of whatever protein it gets from the wheat etc.

For more sedentary lifestyles tho (with some combo of regular body building and exercise etc), quality proteins are better fit (so can reduce on the starch intake).

Physical conditioning is a function of diet only when a sedentary lifestyle is involved. People who have an active lifestyle have a totally different physiology. Years of physical exertion on a daily basis will strengthen bones, joints and muscles regardless of diet, although a good diet would definitely help.

Cardiovascular and neuro-muscular health are much more influenced by the extent of physical labour than on diet. A century ago, on an average, humans had very little access to meat or most food considered healthy today. They literally survived on fumes. Yet, a hard lifestyle due to lack of technology such as cars, escalators and running water meant that they were way tougher than most of us can ever hope to be.

There's a thread about unity and all these intellectuals have chosen this thread to conquer each other.

With the amount of geeks here. Don't expect if someone comes with a thread about the quality of manure they produce after these diet.

These threads are useful when you don't have a billion people living without basic human needs in the sub continent.
