From an indian media outlet no doubt.

"In 1971, it was much poorer with a per capita GDP of $133.6, a third lower than Pakistan’s $178.5. In 2020, the position sharply transformed being two–thirds higher at $1,968.8 as against $1,193.7 of Pakistan, as estimated by the World Bank. Bangladesh, in fact, jumped ahead five years ago and the gap has widened every year thereafter"

" In 2020-21, its 5% GDP growth contrasts favourably with the devastation in Maldives whose growth could shrink by as much as 33.6%, followed by India with negative growth of 7.3%, Sri Lanka’s minus 3.6%"

"Bangladesh’s resilience is largely due to its model of development. It is a frontrunner in improving the socio-economic conditions of its population, especially women"

Are these numbers real or on paper like India?

BD is showing the similar kind of economic trajectory as S. Korea/Taiwan in the 1980s/1990s in the home electronics markets.

It may not be that much in absolute value but it is the growth that is important. This fiscal ending June 30th just Walton will obtain more than 100 million US dollars in exports and they predict 1 billion US dollars by 2025.

"The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data shows that Bangladesh’s $22 million earnings from electronic product exports rose by a staggering 1,275 per cent in the last fiscal year, compared to $1.60 million recorded in FY2019-20."

"Murshed added that Bangladesh’s export earnings from electronics will reach $100 million by the next year, and it is quite possible as we are producing international standard products and offering it at a reasonable price."

$22 million and an avid exporter? I mean how come Bangos have become jokers these days?

Well done Bangladesh!

Regards

Next 5 years is critical for BD economy.

If it can maintain much higher export growth rates in pharma, IT and electronics than garments then it will start moving towards a more balanced economy and be able to sustain its current high growth rate for decades to come.

Great progress for Bangladesh. I've seen a lot of attention to Bangladesh's economic success in Indian media. There is definitely a growing appreciation and respect for Bangladesh among Indian public these days. I'm sure that other developing countries are also taking notice of BD's economic rise
