There seems to be change in the air, the Americans tried to strong arm đź’Ş Pakistan by adopting some punitive measures , such as :
  • FATF
  • Not inviting Pakistan to the climate talks
  • Pushing the leaving date with Taliban
  • Pushing Pakistan to decide between between China CPEC or Join the west
These measure have had varying degrees of success, giving credit where it’s due the Imran government played their cards well. They played the neutrality card with clear economic goals and resisted the pressure from both America and China. This has had positive results.

there is also the whole India’s Russia problem, it can’t quit them and can’t be with them.....their dismal performance against China has eroded the west’s confidence in India as a military partner.

The question now is more consequential, with this seemingly short lived rapprochement

should we get more f-16s ergo weapons or instead get economic benefits, get on America’s and EU favored Nation status to export fruits, textile , sugar and more. Take their help to build dams and upgrade steel mills and maybe more exports to Europe via the train link . Buy components from China and build Pakistani products like phones, light machinery and most of all green tech solutions like solar farms etc.

I feel that our weapons procurement should be European ( we buy stuff from Italy, Greece, France and the UK) or Chinese, not American! America should exclusively be a trade partner where we buy things like lentils, plant based oil , advanced non military technology etc., take their help in building train networks for supply links for energy exports via gawadar from Central Asia to Europe and Africa.

What’s your opinion ?

What would happen once Pakistan has our Afghan border secured will we foster trade or will we have additional capability available to address Kashmiri concerns specially if the insurgency in Baluchistan dies out

If the Americans want good relations with Pakistan, it has to remove the FATF sanctions and talk to a Pakistan about a trade deal that provides the same access as provided to India interms of access to technology and the econonmy.

No need to buy any military gadgets from USA - not required.

Well yes solution to that problem is China taking over all Pakistan’s loans, and our currency being switched to yuan.

so the decision really is American do they want to lose all leverage with the most powerful country in South Asia or stay in our good books. The question to ask is how important is Pakistan to the West after the Afghani withdrawal, how important is central Asian energy ?

Do you anything substantive to back this up? It seems its your imagination about weapons procurement.

What world is the OP living in?

This is just one of many delusions in the post.

there were posts on this forum and beyond on possibly more f-16s and maybe even ah-1z but I would rather see Pakistani leaders go for economic benefit. We need growth not weapons. We fortunately or unfortunately are now dependent on Chinese weapons

First and foremost we should use this opportunity to craft some sort of economic union group/corridor toward Central Asia including Iran and Turkey. Onwards to Rich white nations in Europe. All of these nations combine, then they could have more of an influence to make sure China(read Iron Brother) does not take our region for a ride. And we would have a stronger negotiating position or a check against China if it ever in the future chooses to play dirty like America.

It is crucial to get Iran to stop acting like a rogue agent in the region and get them on our side as friends. That can be done if we play our diplomatic cards carefully.

My opinion is the best path for USA to maintain some influence Pakistan is to encourage economic development and trade on normal terms. USA-Pakistan relations built on strategic or military aims have led to toxic sentiment on both sides. It will help Afghanistan as well, IMO.

America will not really do that if the Pentagon/think tanks/spooks see you(Pakistan) as a threat.

If we want money from America we will have to win that money from American corporates. That's one thing they don't have a lot of control over.

USA economy is run by private business interests. USA is focused on the Indo-Pacific. Pakistan needs to become a grey man and focus on economic development. Leave all the strategic posturing to others.

I totally agree with you. Our first and foremost priority should be trade and economic prosperity of our nation. Everything else should take a back seat.

OP has no locus standi - nothing drastic has occurred that would alter US-Pak ties to more cooperative measures.
