Found this interesting comment on another forum. I agree very much about the points made. Even though I have railed on Americans, I don't find them all that different or worse than anybody else. Same goes with Indians AND Chinese. There are many problems within China, the same type of problems as in USA.

I was very disappointed when I visited China a few years back. It was not because China was 'authoritarian' or 'brutal' -- rather because China BECAME the spitting image of America. There is very little authentic sino-culture remaining, or at least the typical stereotypes. It is very interesting how China now has its own hot-blooded rednecks. China's massive export industry is/was driven by massive migrant workers. This resulted in tens and tens and tens of millions of parents moving to another city to look for work, leaving their children with relatives/elders. Without traditional parental guidance, these kids' outlook on life mirror western kids. Their value system and what they deem as appropriate are virtually identical. All the challenges the West experiences China experience. And all the challenges China experiences the West also experiences.

I thought to myself, is it really so bad that China has become "westernized"? Before I was very concerned, but now not so much. I've come to realize that things change, times change, people change ..... life moves on. Therefore it shouldn't come as surprise that China is the most visited nation on the planet -- a favorite among Westerners. The food may be a little different, air a little more smoggy, people have black hair..... besides that, not much different. :coffee:

This is a glimpse into the future that awaits India and Pakistan. India & Pakistan will not experience the exact same thing, their unique culture, history and peoples will lead them along a different path. But the similarities will be striking. After all, all people are basically the same. :smitten:

American overall descriminated Chinese not because of our skin color, as in the sense of American treatment toward Black because of skin color and the implication of Black being inferiority being... etc. This is truly racially motivated behavior.

On the contrary, the White American descrimiating Chinese because of their inherented fear toward Chinese in general. Chinese are reserved, smart, academic achiever, good money earner... etc; all these typical Asian Stereo typing of Chinese, and this both inspired and feared by the general American public toward Chinese.

In short, American view toward Chinese are mixed feeling of fear, envy, insecurity, jealousy, lack of understanding and communication with Chinese.. etc.

Even in the deep south and the most Redneck states I travelled, I have experienced curiousity more then open racism. More about envy from these Redneck America, but never have I experience the same level of American racism directed toward a black person. No matter how well educated and high income of these black American, there are certain Southern States area are off limits to these upperdy Black. There are certain Redneck events Blacks are off limits.

But for me, I have been to many of these area, with only a slight eye browse raised with none of these Redneck causing me trouble.

I have been to Redneck heaven of Gun Shows, Army Surprise Shows, Redneck Pork Roasting Competition, Pumpkin Toss... etc; many of these events are held in backwoods in country farm fields. God help you if they decided to lynch you during one of these events.

In all these events, these Rednecks are polites but on guards; they may stared at me for few seconds longer as if something odds having a Chinese venture into their domain. These White Redneck never once come over and to cause me trouble or openly racism toward me; they just let me roam around them and ignored me; I can't say if I am acompanied with a Brown **** or Hindu or a Black, God forbid having a Latino walking with me or holding a white girl friend in these situation may have changed drastically and ended in troubles.

In general, Chinese faced less open descrimination then say a Black American, Latino, Indian, or Arabs ... etc. They are curious about me, but yet too unsure of themselves to chat with me or causing trouble for me. But, as soon as I open up a conversation with some of these army surplus merchants; they will open up and converse with me and we talk shop without any problems. Just two Redneck chatting shop, it just so happened one Yellow Redneck chatting with a White Redneck. Even these simple exchange of conversation, these Redneck still treat me with curiousity rather then racism as they would have talked with a black person.

In short, most American descrimation toward Chinese, is stamps from their fear of China becoming stronger and stronger. Their fear of losting the American power status and their fear of Chinese taking over their jobs.... etc. This is far different compared to an American viewing a Black person inside America.

So, to calling these American racist toward Chinese, is not precisely true; yes, they are racist toward Chinese. But, they are rather different degree of racism toward Chinese as compared to a black.

I rather view American generally are underinformed, and geopolically moron where average American knows very little about people outside of America. In fact, many of American don't even knows themselves from one end of America to the other end of America.

I have meet American folks who have never travel outside their township and don't even knows where is China located even if their life depended on it. Imagine, living your entire life, you have never travel outside your city limits. And this is the so called Superpower of the World!

In view of this, I needn't apply much 'PSYC-OPS' for now (until the future warrants it). :pop:

That is hilarious. As if the average Chinese who not only cannot afford to travel but also are limited in access to non-PRC approved information are any more informed about America than these rednecks about China or anywhere else. May be whoever wrote that tripe should read up on how ignorant others are there of America.

come one now no one claimed that the average Chinese is much more knowledgeable about the world than "rednecks" in the US, with that said however America's a big topic in china, people learn about America since grade school and English classes are an option in grade school too, but perceptions are a different story, they think roads in the us are paved with gold or something and that everyone is rich in the US

Let us take a closer look at this idiotic statement by whoever wrote that tripe...

So the implications here can be:

- How can a country be a 'world superpower' when its average citizens are so ignorant?

- If a country is considered to be a 'superpower' then it is expected that its citizens should be the most educated in all things.

Fair enough of couple indictments? Not really...

Let us take a look at the simple transistor that helped propelled the US into 'superpower' status...

Transistor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The transistor is often cited as being one of the greatest achievements in the 20th century, and some consider it one of the most important technological breakthroughs in human history. Some transistors are packaged individually but most are found in integrated circuits.

The first patent[1] for the field-effect transistor principle was filed in Canada by Austrian-Hungarian physicist Julius Edgar Lilienfeld on 22 October 1925, but Lilienfeld did not publish any research articles about his devices. In 1934 German physicist Dr. Oskar Heil patented another field-effect transistor.

On 17 November 1947 John Bardeen and Walter Brattain, at AT&T Bell Labs, observed that when electrical contacts were applied to a crystal of germanium, the output power was larger than the input. William Shockley saw the potential in this and worked over the next few months greatly expanding the knowledge of semiconductors and could be described as the father of the transistor. The term was coined by John R. Pierce.[2] According to physicist/historian Robert Arns, legal papers from the Bell Labs patent show that William Shockley and Gerald Pearson had built operational versions from Lilienfeld's patents, yet they never referenced this work in any of their later research papers or historical articles.
Now...Do you really think that if Shockley was totally clueless on what is going on in China, or even if where China is on the map, that somehow it would diminish the impact of the transistor on GLOBAL technology and boost US stature in the same?

Or how about the business entrepreuner(s) who gave the world the 'transistor radio', do you really think that he really care where China is on the map?

What make the US a 'superpower' lies not in the individual level of ignorance but in the aggregates of contributions from these individuals and in the societal structures such as democratic principles and capitalism that exploited these contributions. The average 'capitalist pig' American businessman does not care if it is a Chinese or American or German that uses his mp3 player, only that his design is better than his competition. Who bought them is irrelevant, only that his product is bought and enjoyed. Same thing with fighter aircrafts or missiles or supercomputers or iPods. All these things contributed to US 'superpower' status, not individual level of ignorance of geography.

What an idiotic article.
