Just wait until China overtakes the US. It won't take long. A country that is willing to invest billions won't shy from trading in billions.

Yes, because the US needs a big trading partner like China due to many reasons. It is not a one way street as you might think. Pakistan doesn't have the same appeal as China for the US. Pakistan serves a different purpose and the Americans don't hide their desire under a rug.

Trade with the Americans, but be wary of their designs. Every move by the Americans must be analysed before committing yourself. Otherwise get ready for "they received billions", "they are backstabbers" etc.

Pakistan is. No one is going to start trading in record numbers overnight. What did Pakistan do to incentivise its economy? What can its people deliver? How much did Nawazoo and others invest in education/training of its young people? You have one of the largest population in the world. Many educated leave for Western countries. Why? It is because the government has never made Pakistan a priority.

Why would a country invest in Pakistan when it sees better alternatives elsewhere? It all starts with education. The Americans are not going to be lured to Pakistan because it has a large educated workforce. The Americans are here for a whole different set of reasons. You know this too.

Keeping good trade relations with both China and America open means we wont be putting all the eggs in one basket, and (like in the past) wont end up being an American pawn.

Thats why its important to keep up the balancing act and not fall deeply into a single camp.

That sounds like a nice plan when you have neutral or good relations with the Americans. The truth is that we don't have good relations with the Americans. Worse, our relationship is mired by mistrust and deceit. Books have been written on this ugly relationship. None describe it as positive.

The US has one primary objective in Pakistan. Every move is eventually meant to transform Pakistan into an Indian colony and decouple it from China. Ever since China invested in Pakistan the Americans are enraged. The Americans always had a sinister plan with Pakistan. The Americans never forgot how Pakistan transgressed and became the sole Islamic nuclear power. They were always going to come back and undo this cardinal sin. Not only that, Pakistan is also accused by the Americans for destabilising their project in Afghanistan. Of course the list of American complainst against Pakistan is much longer, but you get the gist.

In short, the Americans are never going to simply trade. They would seek concessions and impose conditions which are detrimental for Pak. In fact this is already happening in another form through IMF loans. We have been here before. This is the same old. Let's not pretend the Americans are here to simply do good old commerce.

That will change in the near future as China Pak relations are intertwined more than ever.

Secondly, let's be frank here. We are not a trading powerhouse. Our strenght lies in geography and manpower. Unfortunately our leaders have never educated the masses as they should have. Today we could have enjoyed the benefits of a big educated workforce ready to tap into the service sector and knowledge based economy.

The US trades with Pakistan for many reasons, but commerce isn't one of them. The US wants to have some leverage over Pakistan. Trade and loans are just a few that are left. After all the accusations and bad blood there is no incentive for the US to act like a Good Samaritan. The US deep state has marked Pakistan as a thorn. Thorns aren’t caressed. Thorns are ripped apart.
