IMO her mom strongly drove her decision to represent China and she did this without a significant consideration of the consequences of them continuing their lives in America. Chinese parents turn to involve more in kids' upbringing and decision making process, but that by itself doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing. All parents in the states have freehand to influence, in some cases, indoctrinate their children since birth. They all believe they are doing for the best interest of their childern.
