Ambala Could be First base for MMRCA aircraft | idrw.org

Shortlisted European companies ,will soon get the results , of who will provide Indian air force 126 combat jet , Indian air force have hinted that first 18 aircrafts which will be provided by Winning Manufacture will be based in Ambala .

Ambala base which is based in the Western sector and known has a forward base facing Pakistan. Base currently operates two Squadrons of Jaguar aircraft and one Squadron of Mig-21 and Sukhoi Su 30 MKI.

Ambala if selected will be home base for MMRCA aircraft until, HAL manufactured aircrafts from 2015 will be available with Indian air force. Indian air force has already put together a plan to later operate more than half of the MMRCA aircraft along with Sukhoi Su-30 MKI in eastern sector, streanthing border with China.

HAL is supposed to complete Manufacturing of remaining 108 aircraft by 2018 ,but IAF will have follow up order with HAL and will manufacture further 63 aircraft way fast 2020 time frame , this will also be the period when HAL will locally start manufacturing Indo-Russian FGFA 5th Gen aircraft which will be based on Russian T-50 .

.
I think MMRCA Jets must be based all along the Sino-Indo border right frpm Leh to Arunachal.

.
Not a single aircraft procured till now and they are already planning for entire squadrons

So does that mean HAL will manufacture 108 MMRCAs between 2015 and 2018!In just 4 years! It's 27 fighters a year!
And lastly, the option for 63 more fighters will be revised????

.
27 fighters a year is pretty much possible- the mki is being produced at 28 fighters a year......
But to get to that number it takes time, production will start at only about 10 fighters a year and move up from there

. .
yup, its called PLANNING.

I understand the planning part.No issues with that. But what drives me so crazy is,is what is it taking so long to decide and finally start procurement?

patience bro.
these fighters will start coming from 2014 onwards.
we have waited for so long, a bit more is no problem.

I was trying to say the exact same thing. The article says HAL will manufacture 108 MMRCAs in 4 years. So my question was that is it possible for HAL to absorb all the high end techs in such a small time frame and start manufacturing those fighters at a hopping rate of 27 per year from the begining?Or am I missing something??
By the way I know about the MKI manufacturing rate.Last year HAL manufactured 28 MKIs and told next year they would build 32.That's how it increases-step by step.
REGARDS....

Why are you so impatient mate?Have some patient. It was planned from day one to decide the winner by 2011 and get the first fighter by 2014.So every thing is on track.

.
Long range Su-30 MKI should be made China centric once we have MMRCA in reasonable numbers.

I hope and sincerely wish they do.It has been 10 years since the tender was issued.

See,impatience has its justification.
Firstly,it was not decided from day-one that the procurement will start only by 2014.The tender was issued way back in 2001.10 years,a decade has passed already, and no decision has been reached so far.The good thing is the MKI procurement has been going on,inspite of this proposed deal. So,the IAF is not lacking quality products.I think this deal has more political uses than military use.The GoI is using this deal to woo the other suppliers to stay away from supplying our adversaries. So,the more delayed it is,the better. But,in the end,I am just confused.

Everything sounds good except that the capacity build by HAL for MMRCA is in no way able to build more than 70 fighter jets by 2020 on the other hand if we really wanna reach 39.5 squadron strength we will not only have to increase the production of MMRCA but also LCA. HAL is a mess right now and i think unless they lose some of the projects like LUH, Dhruv and basic trainer, i doubt HAL will be able to fulfill the demands instead they will end up delaying each and every project, which we can't afford.

I also think IAF should decide right now whether they wanna practice follow on or not. Its not that difficult because they know what they want and how they want to keep a leading edge over our adversary, they just have to do some studies. If they really wanna place follow on, then instead of 1 squadron they should ask a couple more squadron from the actual vendor so as to ensure speedy induction.

HAL has been undergoing a huge modernisation and the modernisation will be complete by 2012.It will be a bigger entity.HAL is looking to set up manufacturing plants in Gujarat and TN to ramp up production.
So just chill
