Altaf terms opening of Taliban office a dangerous option

Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s opinion for opening of office of Taliban, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has said that it could be a dangerous option since there are various subgroups within the banned outfit.

In a statement Saturday, the MQM Chief without disclosing the name said, “There are some politicians in the country who maintain that the issue can be resolved by holding dialogue and some even suggest that the militants should be allowed to open an office for this purpose, thereby recognising them as a legitimate stakeholder”.

He said that the role of stake holder is a constructive and positive one that lead to nation building. How can somebody who is trying to weaken the roots of the country can be called as stake holder. These ‘destructive’ tactics only display the group as anti-state element or non state actor.

In the recent all parties conference, the militants were already given a chance for peace which they had blown away by continuing the attacks and wowed to carry on with it, said the MQM chief.

“These recent acts of terrorism have provoked a huge wave of anger in the country and some quarters are demanding that the dialogue offer with the Taliban should be withdrawn forthwith adding that some pro-Taliban parties argued that the recent attacks were carried out by some fringe groups and not the Taliban, which they said had nearly 25 groups and some of them were still not in favour of talks”.

Altaf Hussain said that the Taliban are not a unified group further perplexes a nation which was ready for peace talk with them. He also questioned the ability of Taliban to control other militant groups. He asked which group of Taliban must be dialogued, the original ones or the powerful subgroups or both?

“We all recognise the importance of holding dialogue for resolving issues, but I would like to put a question to leaders, scholars and academicians: dialogue but with whom”?

It's a sad state when Altaf Bahi is the source of sanity in political circles.

Well since entire political leadership of this country gave a go to peace talks with TTP, that automatically made TTP a stakeholder.. But I have also started to feel the same about the office issue, since TTP is divided into so many different groups, so allowing them to have an office won't be a logical thing. We should better push TTP to nominate their representatives for peace talks instead.

Whats said is more important than who has said .. Altaf bhai is a victim of serious propaganda. It took the state , establishment , political parties and religious parties almost over 2 decades to realize what their actions and policies to do with strategic depth , assets will result in .. Altaf Hussain and MQM opposed the vary first day.

MQM has had its fair share of troubles but I honestly think that correct politics by MQM, JUI (yes, I know what I said) and ANP would benefit Pakistan immensely. We would then have a very multi-polar party system and that would essentially lead us to better management because political corruption would go down.

It'd be great to see PML-N have a seat in Karachi, PPP in Peshawar, MQM in Lahore and PTI in Quetta. THat'd be a day that would be victorious for Pakistanis. Tolerance and power sharing.

Yes indeed so how will 40 splinter terrorist will appoint a leader by conducting elections ?? no ... they think elections are haram so the only options are we left with is a big fight among-st them and the victor becomes the leader ? or does mullah umer intervenes and appoint some one ? and if he does is he any relevant to any one of them !!??

Now if you know, Taliban office in Qatar was only established for peace talks with US, and as the talks are over that office is now closed... So..

As a matter of fact you are right. Peace talks hasn't even started as of yet and we are already started to witness who is pro peace talks and who is anti peace among TTP ranks.. We could use this opportunity to identify our true enemies and narrow down to our real targets.


Pro peace talks talibans have started to mean ttp officials in WANA and other Waziristan areas to convince them about peace talks. Anti peace talibans are going all out to sabotage peace process (Molvi Fazlullah group and Jindullah)..


But hey, Imran Khan just talked about TTP should open an office.. Hell he's taliban khan, he's is licking ttp arses, he is responsible for peshawar blast and he's fcking responsible for whole war on terror..

Merijan, the US is not Pakistan, they give a damn about the Afghanis, they were in full swing to make a pipeline through Afghanistan with the Talibs earning money in early 2001. It's us who should look for how the Talibs are against us, Pakistan is not an invader, we are underseige, the US is not. So the Pakistani side is very very different and we should look at that.
