Almond blossom in December baffles farmers of Hunza

Hunza: In some parts of the Hunza District people are reporting the blooming of almonds, some species of roses and, also, the growing of grass. The phenomena has been reproted from some central parts of Hunza, as well as from Gulmit and some surrounding villages of the Gojal Valley.

The winters, especially from December to February, are otherwise severely cold in the region. The land freezes and all vegetation is lost. This year, however, the Almonds have bloomed, and some species of other plants can also be seen here and there.

Some call it the result of climate change, and the shifts in local weather patterns, while others are not sure about what is happening.

@WAJsal ts December 23rd and the city of lahore was burning like its June. The sun was literally burning. The heat was unprecedented in December. It wasn't pollution bcz the sun itself was burning.

I had my AC on in the car. Haven't gotten any of my sweaters out in lahore. Although I will say this.

The city of sheikhupura is reasonably cold ( due to being surrounded by farm land and having little to no pollution)

And the only place in lahore where it was pleasant was Punjab university fields and the ground outside law college. Yeah that was a different temp due to a lot of trees and more shade.

I don't think lahore will have a winter. A mild less one perhaps my come around in Jan or Feb but I got no hopes. :p

hahahha.. true that... The typical weather of Karachi like I am still looking for a chance to use my jacket....

Such climate is indeed a warning that would be caused due to many factors and is global warming. Few friends visited these areas a month ago, almost went close to Pakistan - China border and are telling that it was already snowing there though few areas shows a total different picture.

Its absolutely climate change bro. uncertain weather in last many decades is result of CC. Glaciers are retreating, temperature is rising, Precipitation rate is low and human health is at risk bcz of CC induced diseases..

Here in Sweden its the same. It's going to be something like +7 in my city on Xmas day, which is extremely mild.

effects of global warming i guess

Most probably.
here in India too, crop cycle seems to be shifting (i mean in terms of ripening), last year we started getting mangoes as early as mid march.
We really need to do something shortly before it is too late, i guess we already are very near to that 4 deg C delta T mark, above which, earth is doomed.

Global warming as per official Swedish meteorological office. They haven't yet specifically commented on this years milder winter and the reasons for this afaik, but found a link from a couple of years ago in which they said that the average temperature over the past few years has increased by around 2-3 degrees as compared to Sweden in the 1800s (when measurements began).

Same here. It's currently +6 and rainy, but that's not uncommon. I do live in the warmest part of Norway though, so temperatures are traditionally more mild where I'm at.

That said, February is when we experience our coldest temps, not December and snow is generally expected around January.

A bit warmer then usual, but for the most part temps are within the norm for my area.

Yeah the proper winter comes here in January as well. I live on the west coast so I suppose our weathern patterns are quite similar to Norway's. However its usually around 0 or a degree or two above (http://www.smhi.se/klimatdata/meteorologi/temperatur/normal-medeltemperatur-for-december-1.4001). The 7-8 degree thing happening right now is hence quite a lot milder than the average.
