Authorities are searching for a child who was dragged into the water by an alligator near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando.

Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rose Silva said the two-year-old boy was snatched and dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon about 9:30pm on Tuesday, local news outlets reported.

Deputies were continuing the search for the child and local authorities called in the help of an alligator trapper.

A police official said that the father of the boy entered the water and tried in vain to grab his son as the alligator dragged him into the lagoon.

"At some point the mother may have also entered the water, so the parents diligently tried to get the child," the official said.

The family of five was holidaying from Nebraska and were out relaxing at the beach area of the lagoon. The father and child were wading in shallow water on the edge of the lake when the alligator attacked.

The search for the child will continue until resolved, police officials said.

A Walt Disney World spokesperson attended the news conference on Wednesday morning, saying the "everyone at Disney is devastated" by the incident.

.
The parents knew that alligators do exist in those waters but still showed carelessness.
It reminds me of a gorilla incident happened in a american zoo few days ago.
It,s your duty to keep an eye on your toddler.

The frantic search for a 2-year-old boy who was dragged into a lake by an alligator at a Walt Disney World hotel in Orlando on Tuesday has come to a tragic end.

The toddler's deceased body was found completely intact by Orange County Sheriff's dive team on Wednesday.

"At about 3:30 today we recovered the remains of the 2-year-old from the water and that body has been turned over to the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy," Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said.

"Autopsy has to confirm, but there's likely no question in my mind that the child was drowned by the alligator," he continued. "The child was found within the immediate area of where he was last seen. It took some time to go through, but our divers were able to locate the body using sonar equipment."

Terrible news, this is the worst nightmare of a parent.

Can't help but wonder what Disney is thinking of having alligators in a child centric theme park where kids can paddle?

I do wonder if the rise in attacks has any thing to do with http://edition.cnn.com/2016/05/21/us/nile-crocodiles-florida-irpt/index.html

I though alligator attacks were fairly rare, nile crocs attack about 100 people a year.

How many people would know the difference

Well Florida crocodiles are dangerous enough without Nile ones being added.
Alligators are usually relatively harmless.
