Algebra and the Pythagoras' theorem both originated in India but the credit for these has gone to people from other countries, Union Minister for Science and Technology, Harsh Vardhan, said at the Indian Science Congress on Saturday.

Ancient Indian scientists have graciously allowed scientists from other countries to take credit for their findings, the minister said at the inaugural event of the Indian Science Congress.

"Our scientists discovered the Pythagoras theorem, but we... gave its credit to the Greeks. We all know that we knew 'beejganit' much before the Arabs, but very selflessly we allowed it to be called Algebra. This is the base the Indian scientific community has maintained," Vardhan said.

The Union minister said Indians have never used their knowledge of science for negative purposes.

"Whether it is related to the solar system, medicine, chemistry or earth science, we have shared all our knowledge very selflessly," he said.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that in ancient times, India had opened new frontiers in the field of science.

"Mahabharata says Karna was not born out of his mother's womb. This means people then were aware of genetic science. There must have been a plastic surgeon who fixed an elephant's head on Ganesha," Modi had said in Mumbai, adding that what the mathematician Aryabhata had said centuries ago, the world has accepted now.

Well the fart , in its original form was also conceived in India but it was not released rather , self contained (out of fear that the noise would wake up the neighbors) but someone else released it first in Europe.

Which now , finally woke up some folks in India to claim they made it first

That is why the saying goes, if you need to fart , make sure you make noise else people will not know what you did

how about when shashi tharoor says the same ?

The Sulba Sutras, composed between 800 and 500 B.C., demonstrate that India had Pythagoras' theorem before the great Greek was born, and a way of getting the square root of 2 correct to five decimal places. (Vedic Indians solved square roots in order to build sacrificial altars of the proper size.) The Kerala mathematician Nilakantha wrote sophisticated explanations of the irrationality of "pi" before the West had heard of the concept. The Vedanga Jyotisha, written around 500 B.C., declares: "Like the crest of a peacock, like the gem on the head of a snake, so is mathematics at the head of all knowledge." Our mathematicians were poets too! But one could go back even earlier, to the Harappan civilisation, for evidence of a highly sophisticated system of weights and measures in use around 3000 B.C.

Well that sure sounds interesting coming from somebody belonging to a nation that cannot even produce its own bike engine or a car, a nation that threw its only Nobel laureate in Science out of the country and shot the another one....

One might try to reconsider, who or what is the fart here..

following are the famous Indian inventions:

Sony play station
Samsung Galaxy
Toyota Prius
Windows 2008
Google, heck the whole damn internet, Al Gore got the idea about internet from an Indian history book.
space crafts
but bullshit is the biggest Indian Invention so far

Salam left Pakistan in 1974 and got Nobel in 1979. Malala left Pakistan in 2012 and got Nobel on 2014. So no, the nation did not kick out the Nobel laureates.

Actually he is almost correct. Algebra and the Pythagoras(Baudhayana) theorem both originated in India
It was an Indian mathematician Baudhayana who discovered Pythagoras(Baudhayana) theorem. This might come as a surprise to many, but it’s true that Pythagoras theorem was known much before Pythagoras and it was known to us Indians 500 year before pythagoras was born

Baudhayana theorem states that :"
The diagonal of a rectangle produces by itself both (the areas) produced separately by its two sides " Which is same as that of Pythagoras theorem.

Well that was obvious....I mean if they had invented inter-galactic space planes....they must have had algebra and Pythagoras!

If you meant to say that they got their Nobel prize after they were forced to leave Pakistan, then yes, factually I agree with that. However, my question is towards why such people had to leave Pakistan in the first place ??

And what is wrong with you all in general ? Trying to mock others if they claim their achievement ? Right or wrong, probably you can point out and talk in terms of facts. Is it because you yourself have very little to talk about ? Typical case of "grapes are sour". I am surprised at the overall level of knowledge and intelligence. Your jokes are cheap, just like you.
