Alcohol in Pakistan: The prohibition and after

It is kind of the other way then you think. Alcohol is heavily taxed and the people drink/smoke pay so much taxes that in fact they help in paying bills of government health care :)

Already addressed in post #57. Your claim is not even remotely close; it's the other way round (societal costs exceed tax revenues) by a long shot.

Alcohol harm cost double raised in tax - Medical Observer

An estimated $14.352 billion was spent on alcohol-related problems by the ...to only $7.075 billion raised in total tax revenue from alcohol products,

And regarding heroin I think it is way much more addictive then alcohol. When you are living in Australia you should know better. People in west drink alcohol not because they are addicted to it but because it is a way of socialising. May be getting drunk go to bars to get laid too :) Alcohol makes the whole process easier

The addiction is not obvious because drinking is such an integral part of society. Weekend drinking is such a ritual with a lot of people that the addictive aspect is not immediately apparent. The Europeans take it one step further and have a beer or wine during lunch even on weekdays.

:hitwall: beer, whisky, wine all are made thanks to fermentation process by MICROBES

So drink up that water and LET THE MICROBES MAKE IT TO ALCOHOL IN YOUR STOMACH!

Not sure who is teaching you biology there...get the teacher sacked for teaching you direct opposite!

Try reading something at metobolomics level...

It seems that I was taken over by an urban myth. Thanks for correcting.

Ya just the intoxicated guy has no idea where he is...walking in front of the car is fine...drunk driving is fine too he was just trying to get home to his family...drunk girls are fine easier targets for morons...drunk husbands are fine too, just beating up the wife nothing to be shocked about ...
All this can happen with other things too. Best example is using cellphones while driving, texting while walking and nobody want a ban on cell phone. For the same reason banning alcohol on above grounds is also not prudent. Husbands beating wives and children, is bad with or without alcohol. Don't tell me it happens only by drunk men.

I am not sure if you have heard of prevention is better than cure...

So ban everything? from coke to petroleum products to automobiles? That's silly...

Glad I could help clarify some myth!

Unless you are ingesting the cellphone, I dont see how you can equate it?!

The word MAJORITY does mean something

Well, unless coke and automobiles can give you brain damage or liver failure by continuous use...It is harfull if abused but then ALCOHOL is MEGA harmful if abused....Even in small doses or enough doses as a NORMAL MAN drinks, he can get headaches, vision impairment, liver problems and so on...just read the list!

I know it was a joke...lame one but well understood....

And why is that?

See, that is lack of knowledge and research on your part.
Why did you quote Islam if you didn't know the whole story ?

Anyway, before the day of judgement, Alcohol will become legal under a false name.
a middle ground will be found, and named some thing other than Alcohol.

Yet just so that no troller gets the wrong Idea I joked back:

Please cite which Mullah said this

But non-Muslims can buy and do business of Alcoholic products in Pakistan. Then why Indians are whining about Secularity?
Adat say majbur hain :smart:

Anyway, just so you know i do think it's Pakistan's business to legislate it's own affairs in the end seeing how we have a similar problem with prostitution.- just because it's practiced in the shadows, doesn't mean the state has to back it up for the sake of some extra "pessos".

That is a problem in every country....horny bastards line up the business and profit from it bending every law possible from kidnapping to drugging

Yes but in the majority of EU states it's legal,in one form or another.Here(Romania,Croatia,Lithuania-the only 3 EU countries where it's illegal) it's illegal in every form but it goes on and so many ask for it to be legalised to earn cash.I hope it never will.

Hmmm....that is sad and interesting it is illegal in these states when most of the child prostitutes are kidnapped from Croatia and Romania...I dont know much about Lithuania though...

Hey open another thread on that issue...coz it needs to be highlighted too!!

Most of the women are lured with promises for work in Western Europe only to find out when they get there that they are basically slaves to be used for prostitution. They come from rural and poor areas, ofcourse (especially in the 90's but it goes on right now) the scumbags who run human traficking rings operate with the knowledge of the police or local lawmakers. It's slowly getting eraticated by recent arrests, prosecutions but to slowly for my taste. It's really a sad state of affairs. :(

When judges are corrupt, this happens :

Lions, bears removed from gangster's property - Yahoo News

"In 2009, Balint was convicted of human trafficking, violence and pimping, and sentenced to 13 years in prison. That was reduced to six years, but Balint was free after a year."

As you can see from the article, some of these human traffickers are real psychos.
