Airbus to invest $2.5 billion in Turkey in 2020 - Turkish minister
Oct 05 2019
Airbus is expected to invest around $2.5 billion in Turkey in 2020 and that figure will likely reach over $5 billion by 2030, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Cahit Turhan said on Thursday.
Turhan said that Turkey was Airbus’ fourth-largest customer in Europe, with some 270 passenger and freighter aircraft in service with nine operators, and the company had seven major industrial partners and subsidiaries in the country, while speaking at the ceremony for a retrofit agreement for Airbus A400M model four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft at an airbase in the central Anatolian province of Kayseri.
“Airbus is expected to make around $2.5 billion investment in Turkey in 2020 and this figure is expected to reach $5 billion by 2030. Every commercial and military Airbus aircraft flying today has parts produced by Turkish suppliers as concrete dividends of those investments,” Turhan said.
The minister was referring to a long-term dealAirbus had signed with Turkey’s defence procurement agency in January 2018, committing to acquisitions worth $5 billion from the Turkish industry between 2020 and 2030.
Turkish Aerospace and Airbus also signed an agreement in September last year to co-develop and engage in research and experimentation in aircraft secondary structures, such as movable parts, for Airbus programs.
