AHMEDABAD: In a communally polarized city of Ahmedabad, references to Hindu ghettos as 'India' or 'Hindustan', Muslim ghettos as 'Pakistan' and roads which divide these as 'border' is common-place

The largest Muslim ghetto at Juhapura is commonly referred to as 'Mini Pakistan' that shares a 'Wagah border' — the arterial road that divides it from Hindu dominated Vejalpur.

However, this street lingo is now being legitimized in official records. An FIR filed by Rakhial police against four involved in a brawl mentions two accused — Bablu Azizbhai and Faizan Azizbhai — as residents of 'Vatva, Pakistan'! Much like Thane's Nallasopara, where some of the 500-odd Muslim families have reportedly been getting electricity bills that list their address as 'Chota' or 'Little Pakistan'.

The reference is to a housing enclave where 2,500 Muslim families have been rehabilitated from slums on the Sabarmati river-bed for development of a riverfront. The other block houses 1,500 families from both communities. The 4,000-unit colony was constructed five years back by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and allotted along communal lines on owners' request.

Rakhial police inspector Barkat Ali Chavda said, "The writer wrote Pakistan as the address in FIR because it was dictated to us by the city control room. This is quite normal here. Those who live there also identify themselves as residents of Pakistan".

In AMC records, the mixed block is called 'Sadbhavna Nagar' while the entirely Muslim block is called 'Vasant Gajendra Gadkar Nagar after a local icon of communal harmony. In the middle of 'Hindustan' and 'Pakistan', a police post named 'Sadbhavna chowky' was set up two years back after an incident of stone-peltin.

"We are used to this, even auto-rickshaw drivers ask whether we want to go to 'Hindustan' or 'Pakistan'", says local resident Samir Sheikh.

"Complainants many a times dictate information in such lose manner. Here, complainant must have recorded his statement in this manner; he may have played some mischief. However, cops should have cross-checked before making it part of the FIR. After all, during investigation, such anomalies are removed. Beyond this, I cannot comment much on this because I have not seen the FIR," said secretary (home), G S Malik.

The fact that an FIR in Ahmedabad refers to a predominantly Muslim locality as being situated in Pakistan ought not to be taken lightly. It would be mistake to view it merely as an error by a lowly policeman. If the police, which is supposed to uphold the law, gets imbued with such a communal mindset and if such a development is treated casually, it can only lead to further alienation of the Muslims, the consequences of which would be disastrous. Exemplary action must be taken to show that the state does not condone such a communal mindset.

Come on saad. We already see Pakistan flags in many Muslim majority areas in India. This is nothing new. Parts of Mumbai, Old Delhi, Hyderabad, North Kerala, Assam etc have people who are staunch supporters of Pakistan. Let alone Pakistan, many have pledged allegiance to ISIS as well. This is not surprising.
In a Muslim majority area, there will be a considerable percentage of people who would support their nearest Islamic neighbor.

They support you. Few would want to join. A substantial number of Muslims did not migrate to Pakistan simply because of two reasons -
i. Economy - India was/is better. Land and property is here.
ii. Safety - They are safe enough here, so there is no incentive to leave.

What about babri masjid and Gujrat massacre?

. . .
Hindus are more scared about Muslims in India than the other way around. :coffee: This is a fact.

More temples have been destroyed/defiled etc in the past for every Babri anyway. In the recent past.

Sure .. No wonder you keep shittin bricks whenever you hear the word "muslim"...

Don't be confused !!!

Grass is always greener on the other side.

Many Indian Hindus wish that India shouldn't have become a Secular state and should have opted for a religion based state like Pakistan

Many Pakistanis believes that India has chosen the right path.

Those Indian Muslims who support Pakistan are unaware of the similar hardships being faced by ordinary Pakistani citizens 8-)

Can we expect more riots?
If BJP is ruling, chances are low. Muslims know they won't be shielded from the Law. Also BJP won't be able to shield their own firebrand leaders because the media will balloon it. Otherwise, minus the BJP support, Hindus are generally the weaker and coward lot. They usually take most of the beating. Them and the Buddhists.

By Muslims, I don't mean Shia, Ahmedia and Deobandis. They don't live in isolated pockets. The Ahmedia Muslims for example are not often allowed in Muslim areas.

Lol.........the indian Muslims have nothing in common with Pakistanis (apart from religion) and virtually everything in common with indian Hindus bar religion. This policeman is probably identical to the indian Muslims apart from his religion. Calling them Pakistani is like one Pakistani referring to another Pakistani as a Chechen or Albanian Muslim. The ignorance is unbelievable.

To a large extent true. But there are small pockets where our Muslims are more Muslim than your Muslims. We have sent more warriors to the IS as soldiers than your country has. Please keep that in mind.

You lack basic understanding of India. I will try, but I am not hopeful. There is a way Pakistani want's to describe us and whatever does not fit in their description they ignore.

It does not matter if there were few riots, because it happen sometimes. What is more important is how is your daily life. In daily life they are free, they have no major issues and they live happily as others. Not saying there are no problems, might be some but nothing major. They are growing in numbers is proof enough.
