LAHORE: A local religious cleric, Maulana Shams Urrehman Muavia, was shot dead in Lahore, SAMAA reported Friday.

He was associated with Ahl-e-Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat (ASWJ).

According to police, two bike riders intercepted his car in Lahore’s Rawi Road area and fired shots on it, leaving the cleric critically injured. Rescue officials said Maulana Shams died on way to hospital.

Police claimed that it was an incident of ‘target-killing’ apparently on sectarian grounds.

The dead body was shifted to Meo Hospital where a large number of religious party workers gathered.

ASWJ's Maulana Shamsur Rehman killed in Lahore

LAHORE: Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Maulana Shamsur Rehman Muawiya has been killed in Lahore, Express News reported on Friday.

Unidentified men opened fire at his car near Batti Chowk. He had been going home after Friday prayers from Muhammadi Masjid.

According to initial details, the ASWJ leader was shot in the head. His body has been sent for post mortem.

The ASWJ has announced a country-wide protest against the attack.

Many members of ASWJ have been victims of target killings in the past year.

In 2001, Pakistan banned the sectarian group Sipah-e-Sahaba under pressure from the United States to crack down on militancy but the group changed its name to Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ).

An offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba is the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), which has evolved into one of Pakistan’s most feared militant groups and has claimed responsibility for many attacks in the country.

. . . . . .
They are gonna blame 'Shias' and they'll kill some random shia and Pakistan will continue to get destroyed..

While real perpetrators will sit back, watch, and smoke cigar....

so jamatis certify TTP and bin laden shaheed and PTI kids certify shahadat for sectarian target killers , shame on you people

Yar what's up dragging political parties into it? I'm from PTI too, and I don't consider him shaheed from any angle. Everyone can have his own personal views in his individual capacity. Lets not turn this thread into bash PTI thread, as always.

@MrShabi2010

i did not knew until @Jazzbot pointed it out that ASWJ is same as ASWJ = Sipah-e-Sahaba = Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

because ASWJ came into news recently after Munawar Hassan's Hakim ullah debacle came forward i even thought Lashkar e Jaghvi and Sipa Sahaba are separate

i said it as a molana and not sectarian killing party as i would said for any other who have passed

when i said it i did not knew

i dont say martyr for ttp etc or any sectarian killer ever

Question,

Why is everyone so angry at eachother in this thread? So what is someone considers some Maulana a Shahid, them saying so makes him one? no one has license on granting martyrdom except Allah (SWT).

There is too much hostility in Pakistan for people with opposing views, it's literally like walking into a bakery and asking for a chicken sandwich only to be judged by the person next to you saying, oh you like chicken, ap ko sharam nahi atey hain, ye lo cheez sandwich kaho and toba paro aur ajj key bad chicken sandwich khaney key bat key to mey mu pey joota maroon ga.

Calm down people!
